Brian, I was surprised to see that too. From what I understand, the lizards are regenerating every time a boss is killed in that area. If you have never harmed that particular good shiny boi, then theres a chance in some zones you could kill 4 lizards in a row based on how many bosses youve defeated prior to getting the lizards.

2021-05-24 18:36:54 +0000 UTCI probably missed the boat on the episode, but thought this might be of interest anyway. I’ve been playing through Demons Souls on the PS3 for the first time while listening along, and some of the changes you guys identified as updates for the PS5 also seem to be in the PS3 version. Two examples: the crystal lizards respawn every time I load into an area if I’ve missed them, and there’s only one black phantom mindflayer on the boss run to Maneater. I wonder if these were late era patches before the sun setting of the online service? Or maybe I misunderstood you guys. Anyway, enjoyed hearing about the PS5 version and hope to be able to play it some day.

2021-05-21 12:31:15 +0000 UTCNot really a demons souls response, just hoping to hear you guys reaction to the news that kentaro miura, creator of berserk, has passed away. He influenced the souls series in so many ways. May he Rest In Peace

2021-05-20 23:20:55 +0000 UTCI never got a chance to play the original, so it was really cool playing the remake after playing all of the other Souls games and seeing where some of the inspiration for later bosses came from. Whether it’s obvious re-tries like Maneater coming back as the Bell Gargoyles or more subtle things, like how the Penetrator’s sword swings reminded me of Fume Knight, every time one of these popped up, it brought a smile to my face. Except Maneater, I was not smiling at all during that fight. I’m glad I finally got to experience the game, it truly was worth the wait.

2021-05-19 13:00:43 +0000 UTCThe best praise I can give PS5 Demon’s Souls is that the new version is now my preferred way to play the game. To me the improved visual fidelity and performance are net upgrades when compared to the better music and dream-like atmosphere of the original. I might go back to the PS3 version for nostalgia but if I only have a limited amount of time I’m gonna stick with the PS5 remake for a playthrough. In that sense it joins the group of other remakes that have effectively replaced the original like Resident Evil, Metroid: Zero Mission, Ratchet and Clank, and more recently Nier Replicant. Also did you mess around with the very hidden color palette settings in the photo mode that you can keep active during gameplay? There’s one palette that approximates the colors of the original Demon’s Soul.

2021-05-18 18:24:25 +0000 UTCDespite being my favorite series of games, I've played through the souls games at a slow pace and in a strange order. DS 2 was my first because at the time I didn't have a PS4 to get the cool new gothic horror game, Bloodborne. I didn't actually experience the original until well after the remaster was released. But what has been consistently fun across all of the fromsoft games has been checking out the bonfireside chat episodes as I play through the game. With the Demons Souls Remake, I have finally unlocked season 2 of BSC. It was fun to step out of time and travel back to many years ago. You may be interested to know that basically everything you guys talked about in your run of episodes on the original totally holds up as commentary on the remake (or at least matched my experience) for someone who has never really seen the original Demons Souls. Thanks for the good pod fellas!

2021-05-17 23:39:01 +0000 UTCI've been waiting years to finally experience Demon's Souls, and after playing through all the other games multiple times - it almost felt like a welcoming stroll through familiar lands that I'd never visited before. Like a strange sense of happy deja vu. Even though I'd never played it before, I still managed to breeze through it without many extreme sticking points. All prior souls muscle memory kicking in and letting me just enjoy the world. Unfortunately, this meant the ending came way too soon. I stood next to the broken archstone - trying to will it to life. This, unfortunately, is not a secret trick that works. Not here, nor in real life (sob). A huge plus though, is that I finally got the chance to listen to the BSC episodes! Since one of my favourite things to do with souls games is finish an area and then listen to the episode on that. And even though this remake is many years after the original - the BSC episodes still hold up when listened to in tandem. Stoked you guys did these follow up episodes too. All in all - It's a feast for the eyes, and a comforting broth for the soul.

2021-05-17 23:06:48 +0000 UTCThis remake, more than making me appreciate the new fidelity, made me nostalgic for when From games weren't cucks for the "step on my neck harder, daddy!" Difficulty trend. After all these years, though not a cake walk by any means, Demon's Souls is extremely easy by comparison. That's pretty fucked up and I hope From can ease it back up for Elden Ring. I'll take a False King Allant over a freakin Sword Saint Isshin any day, baby.

2021-05-17 19:51:20 +0000 UTCNever got a chance to play demon's souls until the remastered came out. I had played Dark Souls, Sekiro, and Bloodborne before this. I loved Demon's Souls. It was fun to play through and see all of the inspirations to the other games I had played before. This was a fun game that played around with a lot of different mechanics that are a little lacking in later titles. I also enjoyed how 3-2 could have just as easily been a Doom level. One of the few things I wish had been different was being allowed to use Stormruler's powers outside of the arena!

2021-05-17 19:25:55 +0000 UTCYears ago when I decided to play through all the Souls games for the first time I started with Demon's Souls on PS3. Even after beating them all I had always considered Demon's Souls to be the most difficult. Looking back it it now I'm sure a great deal of the difficulty was simply inexperience. However, Blue Point's quality of life improvements make it clear that the original was punishing for all the wrong reasons. The UI in general, but specifically for item management, is so much better now. Being able to send items to storage when you don't have room is welcome change, although I'm still a bit torn about it's inclusion. Overall the changes are a net positive and I'm looking forward to the rumored Metal Gear Solid remake they might be working on.

2021-05-17 19:16:25 +0000 UTCThis was my first full play through of Demon’s Souls and I loved it. I tried to get through it on the PS3 but it got so stuttery and janky in the bowels of 2-2 as to be unplayable. It was also long after the game’s heyday, so summoning help for tougher bosses meant impassable meat walls, and not the kind that appear in the game. This time, however, I sailed through on pristine frame rates and armed with years of souls experience. I think if BluePoint was to try this again, I’d actually like to see them try DS2 more than 1, as it’s more wide-open outdoor spaces might lend themselves to this treatment. Is there another game you think would benefit from a similar remake?

2021-05-17 19:02:56 +0000 UTCAs someone that never played the original Demon Souls due to a lack of a PS3, do you think players that only play the Remaster are missing out on some critical part of the experience?
