Watch Out for Fireballs! 331: Darkest Dungeon (Premium)

Ruin has come to this podcast network.

You remember your venerable network? The one you're listening to right now?

Big thanks to Jack for throwing this lil number our way. A systems forward strategy game sort of about being the HR guy for a lovecraftian hamlet, but it's so much more. We've rarely been more in The Gary Zone than this, and while K is a lil cooler on it, he can see that there's so much to admire here. Buckle up for roughly 3.5 hours of sugar, minus some talk about that shitty 3rd mission in the darkest dungeon.

I finally caught up to this episode and recently listened to it. It really helped me get into the game and now it has it’s hooks verrrrry deep into my brain. Some of my favorite turn based combat I’ve ever experienced, and aesthetically it’s a fuckin aural and visual marvel! Great work and thanks!!!

Didn't mean to come off as dick-ish and self serving as I did in that last comment. Back home from a night out with coworkers, rambling and listen to this WOFF for the 4th time. G's psychopathic for games isn't something thats meant for me to analyze. Just like the show and enjoy comparing and contrasting, I suppose.

I am a bit torn on Gary's psychographic on games, as a guide for future games for myself. I wonder what the disconnect between my absolute adoration of DD and my pure bounce off of DOS2 comes from? Parasocial caveats aside, its interesting to think about.

I know I am way late on the comment deadline for this one but I Have To Post. Its between this and Doom 2016 for my personal 'WOFF Lead Me Here' title - and this one is the clear leader. I have become unhealthy because of this game.

Daniel Toy

A fair comment. Thanks for the reply.

I love this game so much my next tattoo is gonna be based on the bounty hunter.

new WOFF, so clearly in view… or is it merely a trick of the light??

sleepysmiles

I want to experience this game, but I have bounced off of it 2-3 times. Kole's 'This is is not my flavor of stressful' sums up my major friction.

Craig Newton

I think it'd be hard to talk about after Monster Train? I really liked StS and K was cooler on it, but I mostly think what it does, Monster Train does better. -GB

Slay the spire next?

But did K die to a surprise Shambler? Those are always the juiciest stories, where someone terrible happens and you just barely make it though (but usually don't)
