Unfilmable 34: Prince of Darkness

We finish covering John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy" by looking at the 1987 horror film Prince of Darkness. The Catholic church has been hiding a terrible secret for millennia: the devil is real, he's trapped in a tube, and he's ready to break free. And it's up to a group of horny and creepy college students to learn his true nature and try to stop him. While this is our least favorite of the three films, there's still plenty to recommend it.

I'm pretty sure that some fans called the Priest Loomis because of Donald Plaisance's character in the Halloween movies

I wanna get an Antigod tap installed in my house. Pour me a tall cold glass of that satan milkshake.

I really liked the alien/science take on religion and the concepts, but it is the weakest of the three, by far. The cast also had me expecting Kurt Russell to pop in at any moment.

Joshua Kane

Pickle juice is good for leg cramps

I like this movie more than you two, but very good point regarding the lack of a lead. Mustache guy is such a weirdo! The lack of anyone to lean on depends the sense of doom for me, but on the other hand can understand that it could impact the finale for sure

Did you hear the music after the movie's climax, when the EMS team is removing the body bags? (1h36m) Dark Souls 2 - Mejula? Very similar instruments and melody. !!! Thanks for covering this movie. First time I've seen it since watching it at the cinema in '87.

that thing about the really slow pacing to the movie was something that really shocked me when i watched escape from new york, like that kind of really lush 80s time dilation that doesn't really happen in movies much anymore. i knew about snake plissken as some kind of meme badass so it threw me for a loop how much of escape from new york is just extremely long shots of him walking down a street at night

Hell yeah Christmas is saved ! (I saw this in theaters thanks to a person in Austin impersonating a bunch of different people all writing letters requesting a re-release from Paramount. What a saint)

Heck yeah. What a Xmas present. I saw this movie on TV as a teen and while I LOVE The Thing, so much of this movie just wormed it's way into my brain and my creative work.

Oh man, all-time dream sequence in this mofo. Can't wait to listen!
