Bonfireside Chat 197: Bloodborne Comics, Concluded
Added 2021-12-26 15:01:01 +0000 UTCThis week's Bonfireside Chat is about the remaining two Bloodborne comic volumes, "A Song of Crows" and "The Veil, Torn Asunder". Given the strong showing in the second volume, we had our hopes set pretty high. Unfortunately, these overly abstract stories are big on style but short on substance.
"A Song of Crows" gives us some backstory on Eileen the Crow, and shows us what the process of going mad is like. "The Veil, Torn Asunder" is about an outsider to Yharnam who nevertheless succumbs to his own trauma and the fell influence of the town, showing us what the process of going mad is like. The two stories are very similar.

Kole had the perfect comment about the later arcs - “pretentious.” I tended to use “ambitious” describing the last two, as they were bewildering, but out of the norm I extend to a “licensed” book. Like Larry Hama said about his own work, they were bottom of the barrel growing up even if that’s not actually the case anymore. Also - I truly felt Eileen at the end of that story just lay down in the snow, and said “fuck it, what a day” because I didn’t even consider the possibility that the writers might have had the right to “off” a character from the game in print.
