Your Early Release Feed and You

Edit: This information is out of date as of May 1, 2022. We no longer offer the Early Release perk, and have replaced it with other stuff.

Hello! I'm writing with a full announcement of a change we've made to the way we're delivering one of the major backer benefits. As of today, the Early Release feed is being broken away from Patreon and moved over to our normal podcast host, where you can use your Patreon login credentials to get your episodes.

Previously Early Release episodes were mixed in with other premium content, and that made it difficult for some people to find specific premium content. We didn't call it "The Firehose" for nothing!

Here's all you need to do in order to get your Early Release feed:

1. Go to the Duckfeed Early Bird's subscribe page.
2. Click the "Get My Personal Feed" button, found near the bottom of the page.
3. Enter the email address associated with your Patreon account (IMPORTANT!).
4. Check the email account you entered for a message from Fireside (our podcast host) with your private feed URL.
5. Right click (or tap and hold) the blue button in the email Fireside sends you, the one that says "Your Private Feed" and hit "Copy Link" (or whatever your OS says).
    - If you click the link, you'll likely get a bunch of XML code.
6. Take this link and paste it into your podcast app of choice. I can't possibly walk through how to do this on every popular podcast app, but Patreon has a good article with links to help for most of the popular apps out there.

This feed will remain active for you as long as you are a backer in good standing. If you have problems getting your feed served, it's likely there's a problem on Patreon's end, and we recommend refreshing your pledge by dropping it and resubscribing. You will not be charged again (if you are, please contact us and we will issue a refund for the second charge).

The shows currently appearing on Early Release are:

This show list is subject to change as our show lineup changes. Additionally, older episodes will be culled from the feed on occasion. This is not the place to do archive dives... We'd recommend subscribing to individual show feeds to accomplish that.

What's happening to the posts on Patreon?

Since our goal is to address feedback about the premium content being too cluttered, it doesn't make sense to keep posting things on Patreon itself. We know some people are used to getting their audio here, but until Patreon offers a better way to filter content from feeds inside of its own platform, Early Release content will be solely available on the special RSS feed. All other premium content will continue to be delivered here and on their own special private feeds simultaneously.

If you previously listened on the Patreon app or the website itself, this will be a change for you. You can use free apps provided by Apple and Google to subscribe to the show on mobile, and you can use a service like Feedly to subscribe on the web. I apologize for any short term inconvenience this might cause, but it's our belief that it will be much more convenient than the unified feed in the long run.

Thank you for your support!
