Bonfireside Chat structure clarification

Hello patrons, Gary here

Lots of new folk! Welcome and thank you so much for supporting us going into the Lands Between. I speak for Kole and myself when I say that we're both loving the shit out of this game, and are eager to dig in. Because the game is huge, however, and because the game is it what is, I want to set a couple of expectations from the beginning.

1) In our spaces, such as the slack, the facebook page, or here on patreon, do not engage in git guddery. If someone on the show, or off, expresses frustration with an aspect of this challenging game, "git gud" or other derivatives are not helpful. If someone on the show, or off, talks about cheesing a boss or encounter, scoffing is not an appropriate response. If what you mean is "There really isn't a way around it but to learn it" say that. Don't be a weirdo who cares how other people play video games. It's very 2014.

2) Bonfireside Chat comes out every two weeks! I know that will seem like a slow pace to some, especially considering how big this game is. We're in it for the long haul and we have so much to talk about. Every two weeks is what we can afford timewise with the rest of the network. I understand some folk are just here for Bonfireside Chat, and I appreciate that, but we've got an entire network going on and our other shows are important to us even if they're not important to you. Maybe we'll have enough interest to bring back listener response episodes on a more regular basis? We'll have to see. But mainline episodes every fortnight (fort, night) is the show. If you are looking for something to listen to on off weeks, may I recommend the rest of Bonfireside Chat Rekindled or our other shows?

3) Since its inception, Bonfireside Chat has been about an hour long. We're going to try to push that to 90 minutes or so for this season, since there is so much to cover. Again, I can understand why some people might be disappointed we don't do all of the royal capital in one groin grabbingly mind melting 5 hour episode, but after that much time, we just won't be as good on the mic.

4) This game has an odd structure for From. And because of that, we're flying a little blind. It might take a couple of episodes to figure out how much overworld fits comfortably into one episode, or how many episodes are appropriate for a huge legacy dungeon. Please bear with us while we work out the kinks.

And that's it! I'm rounding the end game now and I'm so excited to share my thoughts with you all, and dig into the story of the Lands Between.

Praise the fingers ✌️

It is definitely our longest season. Without specials, it'll conservatively be 32 episodes. But it'll probably be more, with the areas that are a lot like legacy dungeons.

I have a feeling this is going to be the longest season of BCS yet. I was thinking today about how difficult it's going to be for you guys to divvy up sections of map or specific dungeons and in what order they're going to air.

My first reaction was: Only every two weeks? Ah, bummer. Because I imagined in my baby brain that I'd play along with the podcast. Doing that with a second playthrough sounds like a great idea, but then again I'll never even be close to finishing by the 20th and starting a second character early isn't something I wanna do. Well anyway I'm looking forward to what the guys have to say!

Honestly, only a few people complain. They're just loud!

Duckfeed.tv

I'm guessing many people are not happy with the schedule so just to give a different perspective: I for one really enjoy the two week pace because it gives me room to finish the game without time pressure before you guys really are getting into it. Also I'm planing on doing a second playthrough alongside the podcast, which is only really manageable with the two week schedule. I'm looking forward to having this game and the podcast be a part of my life for a long time. So no need to rush it. Let it breath. Let it sink in

I'm wrapping up on immortal unchained at the moment. I think you guys would love to play Advent Rising or give Armed and Dangerous from the og Xbox a shot. Those two are that solid b tier game from the past. Sorry if I don't know where to suggest games.

Kind of a bummer to have to wait 2 weeks for an episode but it is what it is.

shea dewar

can't wait! thank you for the work you all do to keep the BSC community the sunbro covenant of the larger souls fanbase :)

tundacct

Appreciate y'all. It'll be worth the wait every couple of weeks. Hope you have a great one. First time I'll be actively along for the ride as they drop.

Can there be a group password to encourage the most jolly cooperation!?

Jennifer Rupp

Can’t wait to hear you guys get into it! Thanks for all the good work you do. I for one would love Listener Response episodes…I feel like they often provide neat insight to areas or experience that add variance or just interesting stories which you all reflect on in fun ways. I also fully understand this is a lot of work, and you have a lot on your plates. You provide a lot of great material. However the game gets covered and tackled, I’m here to enjoy! Cheers!!

Travis Low

Given how massive the game is, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this season lasts you until the *next* big FromSoft release. You boys are set for a good long while ^_^

Mike Suskie

Dog ahead

BAAAAAARNES

Looking forward to your takes! I hope everyone is enjoying the experience so far.

Benjamin Loveless

God I can't wait to hear you both talk some serious smack about Radahn.

I jumped into DS3 very late so you guys had hammered out pretty much every episode by the time I found the pod and all I can say is you guys crushed it, so I'm excited to see what you two have in store for ER. Also, Git Gud 😉

Jaron Guiley

hell yeah brother

Wyatt

Boy, am I ready to dig in! Every episode will be a biiiig payout.

American Mike
