Watch Out for Fireballs! 354: Deathloop (Premium)

Kill everyone on Reddit Island Fyrefest! Using superpowers and time travel. What a pitch!

It's no secret we're big fans of Arkane, which makes Deathloop exceedingly interesting in both it's triumphs and failures. The apotheosis of density in level design saddled with awkward invasion mechanics from Dark Souls. A timeloop element that works wonderfully in terms of narrative but hampers the pace of play. Deathloop is a game with incredibly high highs but also low lows. Take and listen and see.

Yikes that whole section about Red Fall didn't age well ☹️

One of my favorite touches with Charlie is that you can snipe him from one of the buildings way across the bridge from his hideout while he leans out of a window smoking. Its kind of a hard shot to line up, but you can kill him and easily grab all his goodies after.

Console for G, probably for K too.

I have not played this but listened to about 45 min and had to stop. Bought it and now plan to beat it before I finish the pod. First Arkane game for me so no basis for comparison to thier other games and I am really digging this one so far. It’s a nice little pallet cleanser to go from Elden Ring to this, thanks for doing this pod I needed something different after 250 hours in the lands between the past 2 months.

Yeah, I think I am more into the aesthetic and world of Deathloop/Dishonored than Prey. I love Prey, don't get me wrong, but I will never choose space when given the choice. -GB

Can't believe you haven't played Mooncrash! I really liked the GMT video from what I remember of it and agreed with most of the points in it. Personally, though, I think that most of those design differences are mostly on paper. What made Mooncrash incredible for me, and Deathloop not-so-incredible, was that when I played Mooncrash, I was already in love with the world and play of Prey, and having that twist on it was welcome. Meanwhile, going straight into that model in a new game was in conflict with my desire to experience the new game. At least it wisely didn't have the real-time ticking clock that Mooncrash did.

Been waiting for this since the game launched! Thank you!!
