Bonfireside Chat 212: Stormveil Castle (Part 2)

We've been in the shadow of Stormveil Castle for the entire game, learning of Godrick's misdeeds... and it's time to make him pay. This episode picks up at the courtyard of Stormveil Castle and goes through the Godrick the Grafted boss fight, and we also talk about activating his Great Rune at the tower.

Your gameplay hot takes are really something else that aside, enjoying these podcasts

On the subject of the graveyards, in a world so incredibly obsessed with lineage it kind of makes sense that a lord would ankle you walk through the physical reminder of that bloodline on the way to have a chat with them.

In this world’s values: grafting on people parts = pathetic Grafting on a transforming cyborg sword arm = fucking legend

My son was watching as I was playing through stormveil. After trying a few times to get back to the Crucible Knight at the bottom of the castle without realizing I could trigger the lift (didn't know it was there) he succinctly stated: Or what Godrick, you'll release the birds? or the blades? or the birds with blades on their feet so when they flap they shoot barrels?

Man do i love Godrick. What a magnificent shithead. His big evil laugh never failed to make me smile. This crew of villains are the most Berserk-ass dinguses they’ve had us fight yet It’s wonderful that From is so much more generous with checkpoints this time around, it makes these complicated hard bosses like Godrick and Margit SO much more fun to challenge (see also the Evergaols, which are obscenely generous in putting your runes outside when you die). As you guys say, though, it makes it that much more bizarre and frustrating when they *do* include a boss run. Feels vestigial at this point, they ought to have left it behind.

I was so amused by the Grafted Dragon that it ended up becoming my main melee weapon for most of my first playthrough. I'd never mained a fist weapon in a Souls game before so it made for a nice change of pace!

Kids, just say no to grafting. Not even once!

If you don’t find the Stormveil basement until your second play through, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit is very disappointing, sure. For my wife and I co-opting the entire game through, it was the first Ulcerated Tree spirit we found and it was a terrifying and intense fight. Think we got it on the first or second try. And as an afterthought, yes Godrick is optional. On my second play through - RL40 challenge run, Mohg was the first Great Rune I got. Just pushing the limit and amazed at how non-linear it really is.

The Ulcerated tree spirit at the bottom of the crypt near the tutorial was the first boss that i rage quit and said I'll come back later... The second boss i did this to was the ulcerated tree spirit in the bottom of Stormvale. My least favorite boss in the game for sure.

... Nah, I'm still gonna make the joke. People like that stuff, and likes mean healing! Sure' it's never healing when I actually need it, but it's something. As for the Divine Towers, I think the big hangup is that all of them are topped with a set of dead Fingers, whcih are seemingly important figures in the grand scheme of the cosmos, effectively being angels of the Greater Will.

2/5 of a Hamburger Helper absolutely killed me.

Surprised you guys didn't comment on Godricks boss theme, it's easily my favorite!

I followed the same code as Gary. Went through the first playthrough as unspoiled as possible. Then started using the wiki once I completed it (and saw how much I had missed) While it's not remotely original or creative I daresay I was one of the first people to leave a snake message after the long ladder in stormveil. I found that drop down early, because in learning the fall damage I was chucking myself off every ledge in case. And I, Canadian, had set my Xbox to Australian time to play Thursday evening. So I believe the message would've been left around 10pm ET. Never saw another one left in my time through the game, but in avoiding spoilers I took time off work and "poopsock'd" it. Godrick is quick literally cultivating mass

The easiest way to break open the statues with goodies inside is the old save/exit trick. If you do that in the right spot, the statue will break upon reloading your game.
