Hey guys - last week, i needed a small break from competition pieces, so i did a very fast & simple display base for an old school Night Goblin shaman. All the elements i needed was:
- a plinth. I buy mine at Franco Serra's Il basetta - You can just hit him up on instagram, if you want any. Highly recommendable plinths !
- Miliput
- small Rocks & sand.
- Plastic tree. This tree is from an old Games workshop scenery, that i basically just cut out. I could easily just have used a stick or a root as alternative.
- I added some of the mushrooms from the Zarbags gits kit.
- Super glue.
- Sculpting tool. I bought some at my local hobby store, but can easily be found online!
I started by adding some height on the plinth, by gluing some miliput on the base. From here i could start adding the tree, & then sculping the miliput around it, to make it look more integrated. I did the same with the mushrooms. Dont forget to add a bit of super glue on the miliput before you add the elements to it, just to make sure it sticks to it. From here on i could add the actual goblin & some small rocks & sand, that is just from the garden. I then primed it & it was ready to be painted! It was all done in about 30 minutes.
Thoughts: Make sure to add a couple of elements to the base, that sets the mood or setting. In this case i added the spooky tree & the mushrooms, to create a sinister/dark scene, probably in the night time in the woods, wich i connect with night goblins. Another thing to think about is composition - in this case, his staff creates an arrow/ or direction - i tried to empower this angle or direction, with the tree aswell.
I hope you want to try something similar out, & just play around with a simple display base. Less can also be more!
Have a great day & stay tuned for more tutorials this weekend !
Best regards Nikolas
