NEWS - Apple & the State of Things
Added 2024-08-30 00:51:55 +0000 UTCI meant to post this way earlier, but the short and sweet is Patreon is bowing down to Apple and forcing all creators to switch to a subscription billing cycle instead of a monthly.
All new patrons will be billed a month after the day they joined instead of at the first of the month.
This will cause all kinds of hell for people like me that tally things and try to do them monthly. (Even more so for efficient artists that can actually keep up with the work load.)
I'm not 100% sure what this means to people who are already signed up. Hopefully you'll stay the same. All I can suggest is once it does switch over (November IIRC) keep an eye on things.
- Also! Important - NEVER use the app to sign up to a Patreon. Apple tacks on 30% to the bill. Only use the website. For me, other artists, anyone.
And all of that brings me to a sad realization. I'm reaching the end of my rope. I can't keep up. I can't seem to please or entertain anyone anymore. Large chunks of my support leave every few days. It's getting to the point where art paying my rent and bills simply isn't possible. (And with the new system being scattered I don't even know when or how I'm going to get paid.)
I received a "LOL, Happy Birthday" exit survey on Saturday and honestly it was a bit of an eye-opener. My streams are all but silent and empty. My discord is a ghost town. I'm a failure.
Very few people enjoy what I do. I'm not blind.
(Obviously it's not 100%. There are a few holdouts that try to show me some support and I see it and appreciate it, but you shouldn't have to do it all by yourselves. It's OK to just let me sink.)
I don't have any plans at the moment. As much as I want to just burn it all down and disappear I know that I'd be instantly screwed with debt and bills. But I'm looking into options. I know that if I removed the request tier most of you would leave, but I might just do it.
I will be going in tonight and manually writing down everything I owe, just in case Patreon deletes that when I'm not looking. (They've done it before.) Everyone that is owed will get art to compensate, no matter how long it takes.
Sorry for spamming you with a flood of sad ramblings. I feel trapped in a dead end and nothing I do seems to make a difference.
I'll let you all know when I make a decision.
