Call and Response: WOFF! Dispatch December 2022
Added 2022-12-17 00:39:28 +0000 UTCGO WATCH DUCKSTREAM!
Hello! The purpose of this post is to call for your questions and prompts for WOFF! Dispatch. Please respond by Monday, December 19 by leaving a comment on this post.
We're looking for two kinds of things:
1. Suggestions for our long-form discussion prompt.
2. Q&A about the shows, behind the scenes details, and miscellaneous (including off-the-wall and off-topic questions). Ask us about games or other media, life in general... You name it.
One caveat we've given in the past: If the question is too personal or gross, we may dance around it and not give a direct answer.
We look forward to making this new kind of WOFF! episode together with you.

I may have responded too late but… the Indiana Beach reference tore me out of the lore and intersected our worlds. Both my partner and I grew up going to this theme park annually and it holds a special janky place in my heart. Thanks for the parallel, I will forever think about Caelid in Monticello

2022-12-21 07:57:24 +0000 UTCAfter the surprise drop of Shadows Over Loathing, and the unpleasantness surrounding one of the creators of the series, I was wondering where you guys stand on enjoying art made by People Who Kinda Suck. I think you've touched on this before with regards to Lovecraft (which is fitting, given SoL) and JK Rowling, where Lovecraft being dead and gone makes it less sticky enjoying his work, and Rowling actively choosing to make the world worse for marginalised folks makes it hard to justify spending any money that could make its way back to her. Do you find it tricky to do the mental gymnastics to enjoy a thing in spite of its creator? And am I just asking this question because I've been judgemental over people following the World Cup in spite of Qatar's terrible record on LGBT rights, when I bought Shadows Over Loathing the second I saw it was on sale?

2022-12-19 17:56:09 +0000 UTCI've had Shadowrun on the brain lately. It's still great, even if the systems never quite work out. You suddenly gain the powers of Amalware Farouk, the Shadowrun King - what licensed SR property do you make with your newfound power, in what medium?

2022-12-19 02:47:59 +0000 UTCConsider this: You decide to retire from duckfeed but the contract mandates you provide an imediate replacement for all the shows you're both in. Also, the replacement has to be a videogame character. Who would it be?

2022-12-18 23:07:33 +0000 UTCHey guys. in solidarity with your western rpg month, i decided to play Planescape Torment for the first on switch. After getting a couple hours in I decided to try out your old episode, thinking I'd just get some of the gameplay overview and whatnot and it turns out.. it's very different than your newer episodes. DO you guys ever think about redoing any of those old episodes? Now that you're 10 years deep and have the format down, do you ever consider giving any of those games you first covered another shake??

2022-12-18 22:30:51 +0000 UTCTo Kole, I've finally listened to all episodes of Radio Free Mid-World! I went from having read no Stephen King books to now having read every book covered on the podcast. How much of a chance is there that you will be continuing the show? I'd love to hear your coverage of all the new Stephen King adaptations being made. I seem to remember you expressing some guilt at some point about not finishing The Dark Tower coverage, and I want to be clear that I absolutely do not want to be adding to that. It's fine if it's left where it is. Just wanted to share my appreciation for getting me into this wonderful world of horror.

2022-12-18 21:59:23 +0000 UTCI’ve been thinking about Narita Boy lately. It didn’t make much of a splash when it came out. It has S-rank visuals and an an even better soundtrack I keep in heavy rotation and you all should too. Unfortunately, the play itself is a 7/10 at best which makes it hard to recommend. I’m curious how you approach a game where one aspect of it is extremely good and outshines the rest, which is only average at best.

2022-12-18 15:19:26 +0000 UTC(Name pronounced Gotham) Sometimes, it's really hard for me to get into a new game because I have to teach my brain to do something new. All my friends have told me that Disco Elysium is Gautam-nip, but whenever I boot it up my brain goes "Ugh, now you're going to have to learn these new mechanics and how the systems work with each other - why don't we just throw on a podcast and play Elden Ring for the fifth time?" As folks who play games for a living and have to jump from genre to genre, how do you get over that hump? P.S. Apologies to Kole for being super wrong on the length of the Death Stranding ending! I wasn't trying to spread fake news on the Duckfeeds - I just got so angry thinking about that game, fact checking went straight out the window.

2022-12-18 14:29:47 +0000 UTC(Name pronounciation is may-knee-av) Hey guys, I finally joined the slack on Saturday, and I wanted to thank you guys for helping to build such a friendly community to get involved with. Everyone has made me feel very welcome, and I was immediately given advice on how to use Slack as a whole, as I'd honestly never heard of it before. I was glad to see you cover Torment as I have it but haven't given it a try. I actually found WOFF and Duckfeed as a whole by getting interested in Planescape last year and finding you guys had the most comprehensive coverage of the game I could find, so Torment was the logical next step. Gary mentioned that Torment may work better as a collection of short stories rather than have one big long plot. Do you guys feel that anthology style video games should be a little more widespread, I.e. like Stories Untold, What Remains of Edith Finch or Kentucky Route Zero (somewhat). Are there any other games you feel didn't need to be tied together with as strong an overarching story and would be just as if not more successful being split down?

2022-12-18 12:32:00 +0000 UTCLongtime first-time! I'm loving Elden Ring but I am really disappointed with amount of "hard-light" weapons in the game. From usually knocks it out of the park with outlandish pseudo historic weaponry, it's just a tad bit lame (to me) when a boss pulls some Green Lantern ass shit from out of no where instead of a wicked sword or something. Though, that giant glowing gavel is pretty funny. It's probably a silly gripe for sure. What are your thoughts? Love your work, gentlemen! Happy holidays!

2022-12-18 03:03:23 +0000 UTCGreetings! Thank you for the outstanding content that you put forth every month; the Exquisite Suffering about Tarzan Untamed might have been the hardest I’ve laughed at a podcast in a very long time! Lately, I’ve been going through the Resident Evil games I missed while taking a ten-year hiatus from the franchise. I was delighted to play RE 7 and the remakes of 2 and 3, all of which were a whole lot of fun (and of course I listened to your WOFF episodes about them afterwards). I haven’t tried Village yet, but I’m excited for it. I was a bit apprehensive to play Resident Evil 6, but I bought it for under $10 on sale for Nintendo Switch and gave it a shot. I know that commercially, it is currently Capcom’s fifth-highest grossing game, but the critical consensus seemed to be that it was bad. Having played all four campaigns, I can genuinely say that I loved it! I played in handheld mode on the Switch OLED and used motion controls for precision aiming, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to play this game that I missed ten years ago; I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t pay full price, because I played it like a handheld game, because I played it a decade after its release with low expectations, or (most likely) a combination of all of the above. Is it stupid? Absolutely, and I love it for that. I suppose my question is this: how has critical consensus—negative or positive—adversely affected your decision to play or not play a game? I included the possibility that positive consensus might cause someone to play a game that they might not otherwise have wanted to play but felt that they “should” play it anyway. I still resent my time with The Witness and Celeste, but more power to the folks who seem to agree with the vast majority of critics and love them. Keep up the great work! —A dummy who loved Resident Evil 6 and hated The Witness

2022-12-17 20:30:29 +0000 UTCI recently played Demons' Souls for the first time on the PS5, since I never had a PS3. I listened to the Demons' Souls season of Bonfireside Chat while playing, and something that stood out to me was the hilarious disdain you guys had for the Audible ad reads. My favorite was from Gary, in a raspy creep voice, quote: "hey kids, this podcast is brought to you by audible.com, SHHHHHH.... if you go to audibletrial.com/bonfiresidechat, you get to see a free dead body!" My question is, did your artistic liberties with ad reads ever cause an issue with the sponsor? Do they have guidelines or anything for you to follow?

2022-12-17 07:07:33 +0000 UTCThoughts on amnesiac protagonists in games? It's a cliche, but some of the best stories like Disco Elysium and Planescape Torment build their narratives on discovering your forgotten past.

2022-12-17 05:21:43 +0000 UTCWhat are some tips for having a good time in the slack channel? To be clear, everyone in the slack has been wonderful! Seems like a great place with nice people having a good time, but being an active part of it has never really clicked with me. Any tips for enjoying the Duckfeed channel or various discords?

2022-12-17 01:59:23 +0000 UTCEveryone talks about the best games of the year, and sometimes the most antipcated games for next year, but hardly anyone talks about the worst games of the year. If anything, I think it's more important and more fun to discuss those, as you can learn from what makes a 'bad' game bad and avoid it, hopefully. So Gary and Kole -- what's YOUR list of the worst games of 2022?

2022-12-17 01:35:20 +0000 UTCYou guys hear that Ralph Ineson is gonna voice Cid in FF16? That's kinda fuckin' wild, right?

2022-12-17 01:29:26 +0000 UTCHi there Gary and Kole! As some of the more astute listeners may have gathered, I often ask fluff questions that are more funny and stupid as can be instead of genuine pointed questions that engender serious thought and reflection! Perhaps this is a result of crippling anxiety and imposter syndrome informing me that I am incapable of asking a genuine question? On that note, do you ever grapple with anxiety or imposter feelings as relates to your space in both the *GAMING* and *PODCAST* spaces? (If anybody makes an among us joke I will cry mercury teardrops)

2022-12-17 01:24:34 +0000 UTCI recently read Midnight in Chernobyl after Gary mentioned it on Unfilmable, and found myself really enjoying it. Are there any other historical disaster books in a similar vein that you would recommend? In the mood to read about some real life human misery and the lessons we can learn from it.
