Abject Suffrage: March 2023

Hey ho, weirdos. How would thee like to make our hosts suffer this month?

Metal Mutant (DOS)
A real slow moving 2D action where you (a robot) transform into a (robot) dinosaur within the first few minutes. It's probably a power you have?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (PC)
This is one of those weird mini-game collections that PC game makers assumed we all wanted in the 90s? My brain remembers the Dilbert (RIP) collection and the Hunchback of Notre Dame collection. Prepare to have your favorite bits rehashed. But with famous comedic timing of video games!

Rat Simulator (PC)
Just watch the trailer on this one.

Street Warrior (PS2)
This is that company that made those shitty EU psuedo-Disney "games" on PS2. This time they're making a beat-em-up. Great sound design. Just marvelous.

Voted for Rat Simulator because it's the inspiration for Mouse Quest from Smiling Friends

I'm a simple person, I see "Rat Simulator", I press the button.

Max Taylor

cheeeeeeese, Gromit

Lucas

the other games sound far worse but I need to know what on earth is going on with a game called RAT SIMULATOR

Emily K (EmK Ultra 64)

Not sure what rat simulator is but it feels strangely attractive

That's what begat the ancient saying "never turn your back on an Amiga emulator; given half a chance, they'd kill you and every PC you care about". It loses something from the original Yiddish.

I had a magazine cover demo disk of metal mutant (amiga version) back in the day (1991?) and at the time it captured my imagination to the point that over the last 20ish years I occasionally consider getting an amiga emulator just to play it. 2 things stop me, one is that i expect my then impression of it is far more enjoyable than my now impression will be, and two, i have experienced amiga emulators messing up one pc and killing another.

Grail, Grail, baby! This is one I would love to hear some disagreement on - I think the apologists for this game are directly proportional to the apologists for most of Flying Circus (and I am a fan myself). As an Irishman with very similar humour to British sensibility; I am always very interested whenever Americans discuss Python. ARE Gary and Cole true Python-heads-can they excuse THIS much mediocrity or is it the true representation of surreal counter culture that the shows and films were lauded for? :)

Shane Storey

Holy Grail is the good one. Monty Python’s Complete Waste of Time is aptly named. But I was 13 so I played the shit out of it.

Doug Lief

Rat Simulator looks like it was made with the same assets as that House Party game where you try to bang people. Also "Pestman?" Are these Brits?

Andrew T

I never played Holy Grail. I remember playing The Meaning of Life on a friend's PC for a few minutes and enjoying the music but I cannot remember what the gameplay was at all.
