Bonfireside Chat 255: Mt. Gelmir Roundtable

We welcome QAnon Anonymous's Jake Rockatansky to discuss Elden Ring. The boys ask him if he sees any simularities between Elden Ring lore diggers and QAnon bakers.

Just kidding. But that would have been an interesting question!

Plus we hear your thoughts on the Gelmir region.

Yeah I mean, Yhorm even in a church?

Adam Sacco

Thats what I thought at first too when I hear em say that. Only because Pontiff clapped my cheeks for literally 10s of hours.

Funk Phunkerton

I had heard about Soulsborne before ever getting into them due to people saying they helped with depression and rough patches. After playing all of them I have to agree!

Terrific guest and discussion. I find it very interesting how for some people From games have a therapeutic quality. Would love to hear this topic explored more.

Thunk

Thank you for the headsup! He's not on my radar, but I'll take a look.

Idk if you guys know Gino Machino but it would be sick to have him on the podcast for one of these round tables. He’s an insane souls challenge runner and arguably the best Elden Ring challenge runner in the game right now. He has over 40 elden ring no hit runs completed, and is currently preparing for the “God run 3” (7 consecutive no hit runs of demons souls, ds 1,2, and 3, bloodborne, senior, and elden ring). I think you guys would love talking to him.

Jared Belke

Thanks Gary! That makes sense. I might’ve submitted a bit too close to the deadline. I’ll try submit earlier in the future.

I think it just came in after we compiled responses. I think you have a good point and agree with it, our schedule has just been a little topsy turvy getting ready for Midwest Gaming Classic. Sorry dude! -GB

I don’t mean to sound entitled or anything, but I’m kinda bummed the comment I submitted for the round table got skipped. I understand there were a lot of submissions this time around (and the interview went a little longer as well), but I was keen on hearing your thoughts on my criticisms of the way the Assassination Quest allows you to bypass the dungeon proper, and how that can lead to a somewhat deflated experience with the dungeon as a whole. I feel it leads into a discussion regarding some other issues with quest flagging and quest structure that are unique to Elden Ring, that don’t apply to the other Souls games. I didn’t see any other comments addressing that, so I’m kinda surprised it didn’t get read. I guess I’ll just try to keep it a bit more concise next time and hope for the best. Regardless, great episode

I wouldn't go so far as frustration just some gentle feedback. I always burn through your weekly episodes so I really look forward to the longer roundtables for that additional discussion and content. You make a valid point about the time gap and breadth of the game which I think is unique compared to the previous seasons. I suppose what is a more realistic ask from my side would be that the interviews are additive in interesting ways. For example you have had guests in the past who are lore experts, or deep dive the statuary/architecture or have a muscical background etc. I would love to see a guest with a mythology/theology background or someone who is a GRRM superfan to see what they might add to the discussion. Let me finish by saying I love what you do on the network and this is the only thing I have ever been a patron for. Also I very rarely leave comments on anything on the internet so my apologies if this take is kind of shallow.

My fave guest so far! Might need to check out his show.

Richard Cochnar

Did anyone else notice audio issues with Jake? Like skipping through random words?

Xanax the White

We just thought the two swords were Stormbringers, probably because we were Rykard minded at the time. -GB

It's just hard to expect the guest to be fresh with an area this long after release. We already ran into some fuzzy memories in previous seasons and we'll be asking people to talk about specific encounters in Farum Azula like 2 years after the game came out. I get the frustration though. -GB

Duckfeed.tv

Had the same thought!

jasonblankey

Yea pretty sure that's the one!

MeltyHam

I felt this one was a bit disappointing. I miss when the interview guest would be invited to discuss the actual area. Like a a bit of generalities is fine but I would like to hear more about how a guest responds to a specific area as oppose to their thoughts on Elden Ring as a whole. Also I am sure Gary had to bite his tounge when Jake was praising Soul of Cinder and Horah Lou 😂.

MeltyHam

With regards to the gladiators and the snakes- I always, to use a wrestling term, assumed the gladiators that wore snakes were playing the heel- basically being ‘the bad guy’ to be defeated

Artalam

This interview was disappointing. There are only going to be so many Roundtable Roundtables, and it's a real missed opportunity when the guest has so few original or interesting insights. Why was Jake the guest, apart from hosting a podcast on an unrelated topic that Gary and Kole both like? The joke text in the description, "if he sees any similarities between Elden Ring lore diggers and QAnon bakers", would have been a fun and thematically relevant topic! Looking forward to the next one and hoping that the guest will have more to bring to the table, so to speak.

Kevin Marcellus Horan

I've been listening to you guys for a while and bar none, I think no guest has talked more in an episode than Jake. I would be genuinely curious to see the final word count distribution between you guys, Not a negative! Just an observation LOL. Great episode, thank you for the content!

Alexander Gurule

When referring to a boss in a church with two swords, wouldn't that be Pontiff Sulyvahn not Yhorm?

Daniel Runfola

I’m genuinely shocked everyone just left calling her Malania alone.

Jensen Yancey

Jake's story of killing Agheel stands out to me. I helped a friend with Nameless King in DS3 and got to land the final hit as a stagger/finisher combo. I wish I could bottle that feeling and sell it.
