Exquisite Suffering 163: Monty Python and the Holy Grail

You have chosen... poorly.

That's this movie, right?

Exquisite Suffering 163: Monty Python and the Holy Grail

whenever i think of monty python, i think of the family guy bit where they torture meg by making her watch the other 90% of the show that isnt funny or memorable, which is my exact experience whenever i saw flying circus on pbs as a kid

Sean Riley

Most of the podcasts I listen to are done by guys like 10 years older than me so it was kind of surreal hearing the guys describe a high school experience that is accurate to my own.

I play DnD with a group of guys and every single time someone moves away from an enemy someone says, "brave Sir Robin" etc. and they all laugh and I just smile and nod. Edit: also, whenever we ask the DM how much something weighs, someone quickly turns it into a "joke" about an "unladen swallow" which I can only assume is some other Monty Python nonsense

Martin King

yeah. i hear you. my preferred pile of culture slop isn’t necessarily better. i don’t overquote, i just noticed that when I do hear them they seem to function differently.

Hey, we Simpsons over-quoters aren't actually any better than Python over-quoters. Just because we have a different sense of humor doesn't mean we're automatically better than them

The Duke of Nebraska

Monty Python quoters are supremely irritating. What is it about nerds that compels them to substitute Holy Grail or Hitchhiker’s quotes in place of a real sense of humor? I still encounter this in D&D groups and it drives me INSANE. I quote Simpsons from time to time but I notice when people reference those they almost work like idioms. You can drop “I hope someone got fired for that blunder!” and it gives context for how you feel about a situation. Simpson’s quotes are never like, “Ni! Ni! Forty-two! Spam! Remember that? I saw the movie, too. Please laugh! PLEASE!”

I remember my dad buying this for our first pc. The watch movie gag is pretty funny but I don’t really remember too much besides that.

Damn, only a half hour? How unfortunate.
