Unfilmable 53: Session 9

What happens when you mix asbestos removal and an abandoned mental asylum? I don't know but it's your next job. Later!

Man this was good as a horror film, but it sucks to have sat through a "People with DID are murderers!!!" storyline not knowing if they'd go with the trite and harmful "They developed a MURDERER alter cause that can just happen" twist or the other trite and harmful "They were actually POSESSED!!!" twist.

Thinking about other folk horror flicks, I’d love to hear you guys discuss some of Ben Wheatley’s films (especially ‘Kill List’ or ‘A Field in England’) Any interest?

i love that movie but man it would be a masterpiece at 70 min instead of over 2hrs

I don't want to be the "have you seen" guy, but, have y'all seen Skinamarink? I only ask because I think it's an extremely interesting horror movie, but (without giving anything away if you haven't seen it) I have no idea how it could be approached in a podcast format. Has it been discussed for the show?

Should be fixed!

just letting you guys know, on the patron-only unfilmable feed, this episode is a minute long. wanted to make sure the full version goes out for both the patreon bonus feed and the unfilmable feed as well!

I rented this with some friends waaayyy back in the early 00's and it scared the piss out of me. Glad to hear it held up. This film must have had a big rental presence because more ppl seem familiar with it than I would expect for such a low profile film. Also speaking of Larry Fessenden: yall should cover Habit (pretty dope early 90s vampire/drug-use allegory)

Tremendous pick. Now I want to rewatch this again. I never viewed it as “The Best Silent Hill Film” before, but now I do, and that makes me appreciate it even more. I actually went up to the old hospital at the end of 2021 and explored. It’s a ridiculously overpriced apartment complex now and unfortunately very little of the hospital’s original structure remains. There’s a small cemetery off of a short trail by one of the upper parking lots. Imagine moving to this place not knowing its history and then finding a bunch of markers on one of your brisk autumn strolls. I didn’t have time to find the other cemetery before it got dark, but it was an intense experience just to be there on those grounds.

I’m reaching very hard here but the only thing I can figure re: fuck youuuu is that there’s an extremely similar shot in nightmare on Elm Street 5 the dream child. The line is something like “What are you saying/are you serious” and despite being a very grounded scene in a house the camera zooms in a manner that can only be seen as comical.

Great pick! Looking forward to Return of the Living Dead and/or Apostle as well... whichever you wind up doing.

You’ve gotta check out Session 10. The main character has a structured settlement, but needs cash now

The real horror is mesothelioma

One of my all time favourites, can't wait to listen after work! I've even had a couple patients talk to me about it when I'm doing my horror binges every October. Also I was watching this movie in optometry school (in Worcester, Massachusetts) and learned that the asylum was along my drive to my favourite Mexican restaurant (although now I'm tragically back in Atlantic Canada with no good Mexican food except what I make myself)

Oh cool, an episode on a movie I’ve seen.
