Unfilmable 51: Final Destination 3

The maniacs decided to make a slasher series where there isn't a killer. And at least for this entry, it works.

Wendy is a precog who gets a vision of herself and her friends dying horribly on a rollercoaster. She stops her friends from riding, and death gets angry. And when death gets angry, he makes ample use of one small town's horrendous safety standards to off those kids... horrendously.

Some day! You get to hear me reject it at least one more time though. :) -GB

Any plan on going back and doing Malignant? I just watched it yesterday thinking I'd seen it in your list of films done, but I guess you haven't . Now I really want to hear you guys tear into Malignant.

Gregory Martinez

I can say that the previous Final Destination films are just as fun/dumb/ridiculous. I was looking forward to Malignant, but totally understand the reasoning you skipped it. Will y'all cover the film in the future? EDIT: nvm i listened to the rest of the ep and yeah you said your covering it : )

One: SUPER excited for Dolls. I love that movie, it's a cheesy classic. Two: yall need to at least watch final destination 4 (which is for some reason called The Final Destination, iirc). an asshole character gets his guts sucked out his asshole. it's incredible.

The quality of these movies wavers throughout, but the premise is always entertaining for me. Really fun episode! I like Gary’s multiple choice idea for the next movie at the end. If you ever want to open that up to a listener poll, that would be fun imo

As a member of Kole's cohort (Kolehort), these movies were appointment viewing for me and my friends. Personally I think the third installment is a close second to original. The premise was so novel when it first came out, and the slightly-more-sincere tone really works for that one. Also the teacher's death is still my favorite kill in the entire series. I just love this universe where wires are always fraying, cords are always wrapped irresponsibly and all technology is highly explosive and flammable.

I know you guys have a lot of films on your lists but if you can check out the movie Antichrist with Willem Defoe, movie is bonkers and would make a good episode

Michael Andrew

Fun episode. I love this movie so much. You should absolutely check out more of them. They are all good fun plus the fifth one has the flimsiest bridge I've ever seen in it.

Chris Hales

My superpower is a memory so broken that no matter what you say the next episode will be, by the time it's out I am surprised! Great choice. My wife and I marathoned these movies last summer and they were great fun

Neat!

The Cosmic Force of Death in Final Destination Movies: Death is Petty, 'cause Death isn't placated by the fact that everybody dies eventually. Death wants everyone to die in Very Specific ways until Death decides you should actually die in an Absurd, Random and Horrific way. Death is Lazy, 'cause although Death has a plan, Death keeps making plans that don't account for people with precognition. Or maybe Death assumes people capable of having Spooky Visions of their own deaths will all be Good Sports about it and elect to die anyway.

I bought this when I was younger and our Blockbuster was going out of business and it was the height of dvd special feature games. Before each death you could make choices for them and things could go differently. It was like proto-Until Dawn/Quarry but not very good and most of the time the same shit happened anyway. I feel like I have a relic of the old world now because how many people can say “I have Final Destination 3 on dvd”?

Josh Sanko

Holy crap! I kinda-sorta worked on this movie. A friend of mine edited all the behind the scenes and extra's on the DVD, and I got to do all the little animations that play overtop of the Glen and James Wong interviews. What a great excuse to go back and rewatch this one!

Stephen Sloan

I was once scrolling Netflix with a date and looking for horror films. She'd never heard of Final Destination and when I explained the concept she decided she couldn't be bothered to watch the films and instead just watched a youtube supercut of every death scene.
