Bonfireside Chat 275: Consecratred Snowfield (Part 2)

You've never seen a snowfield this consecrated before. I guarantee it.

I came here to mention this. It was absolutely adorable, and a little reminder that this is a world that exists outside of our character and their interactions with it. Very cool to just observe things in games - the wolves somewhat reminded me of the way Breath of the Wild’s dragons were introduced in that game; a glimpse of something higher and more natural, unrelated to us as a player and our quest etc.

Yeah I have an (irrational?) fondness for it too. I think its because it's the most northern point of the game's main landmass. There's a remote, ethereal beauty to it. I feel the same way about the Misbegotten boss arena at Castle Morne for southern reasons.

I'm fond of the Apostate Derelict. A small quiet church at the far corner of the snowfield, surrounded by spirit jellyfish & lilies, with great importance to a Journey. It's almost quaint. I've always wondered what exactly made it apostate.

Okay thank you! Same for me, and I felt super smart remembering the crystal darts in my inventory. I thought “maybe make them fight each other, maybe thats what the statues are trying to show??? There’s no way tho” and then it working. One of the best moments of the game for me because I did not look it up.

Not sure if this got mentioned, but somewhere near the center of this map there is a pack of wolves chasing around the glowing trail of one of those invisible scarabs. The animation really sells that they are playing and it's so so charming. It's pretty sad when they notice you and immediately feel threatened. Just a great little one-of-a-kind moment in a huge game that surprised me on a recent playthrough.

Ohhh...I didn't know you could use crystal darts. Love it.

The Sentry's Torch still works while on your back while two-handing a weapon... so while a shield really isn't an option against the Black Knives, you can still maximize damage.

I was similarly frustrated with the town puzzle on my third playthrough as a faith build. Ended up using Assassin’s Approach combined with hidden form to try and sneak by, but the Albinauric archers gave sight akin to Superman or Predator, it seems.

Interesting to learn people consider liturgical town a hard stop. My pro tip is RUN! And get on building. Boom, black knives cucked

Lastly you can make the giant octopus fight theodorax and it actually puts up a really good fight. Shocked me, but a useful ally.

So… at the Alburnaric Rise, I think the goal is to make imps fight. With summons or, as I did it, with crystal darts. Crystal darts work on the imps and cause them to go insane, and there’s 2 imps behind the rise to make them fight each other which is how I opened the rise!

Did anyone else feel like the whole consecrated snowfields had a sort of ‘ocean floor’ vibe?
