Bonfireside Chat 277: Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree (Part 1)

One of the last legacy dungeons in the game. It's a lot to take in.

I swear to Kratos, this is harder than what it’s guarding!!!

That part with the erdtree avatar and the haligtree knights in front of door gets me every playthrough. In my opinion, this is the toughest encounter in the game. I tried bewitching branches, and all manners of ways to beat it fair and square, but I end up having to cheese this, sniping the avatar from a mile away.

Hi Mr. Duckfeed, looks like it's not actually there, even after it shows up. It's also not in the Pocket cast feed :(

Chad Laing

Okay that worked for me! Thank you.

I clicked on the bonfireside chat tag and scrolled down a bit and it appeared for me! -GB

Sorry to be a bother or to ask this in the wrong place but did something happen to episode 278? No matter which search terms I use I can't seem to find it anywhere on here.

It is always so sad when as as a summoned phantom we reach the pest swamp and I (and any other phantom) slide gracefully through the muck while the host slowly trudges along. At least I am there to snipe the bugs that end up chasing them

Randomsome

In case anyone might see this and was annoyed by having to trudge through sludge slowly here and in other swamps, using the Quick Step ash of war still let's you slide gracefully past pests and through swamps. It still works even when you've exhausted your FP.

I might be one of maybe, like, three or so people who don't actually mind that no explanation or hint was given for Malenia's march to Caelid & eventual battle with Radahn. In my personal opinion, any reason either opponent might have had is overshadowed & made null by the aftermath. Whether or not this was the intention, and whether or not DLC follows up on this, I do appreciate a narrative that offers "whatever was meant here, this is the thing that happened." And, oh man, is Caelid the thing that happened. For what it's worth, I liked Millicent and Gowry's weird intertwined quests a whole lot. Not a dig or anything, just offering up another perspective. In fact, I liked it almost precisely because it was weird. I think the "dignity" of Malenia toes the line between literal and metaphorical- I've seen some folks say that Millicent represents the shed pride of Malenia, and also seen some folks point out "Hey, it might be the needle." I don't think it's just one, but I also do believe that Millicent is indeed representative of the shed pride of Malenia, just not like, again, literally. It's that her and her sisters are literally born from the aftermath (again) - aka the swamp of aeonia- of Malenia setting aside her pride to face Radahn (who is no better). Along this train of thought, it's interesting to think of Millicent & the rot gals as not just clones of Malenia, but extensions of the swamp as well. Again, it's weird. They're fungal floral kids! I'll save the rest of my thoughts on this for next episode, when you finish Millicent's quest.

Antspur rapier has strong rot buildup, and can be infused with most ashes. Pretty sure one of my arcane builds has a triple status version, which is lovely on such a fast weapon. It's a shame we didn't get more status effect weapons in the game, since they're all pretty fun.

I love how all the enemies are in a depressed stupor because Miquella is gone and the Halig tree is dying. We're pretty much here to let everyone know the dream is dead. It's like kicking in the door at a funeral.

A real location 😮‍💨 I gained like 15 levels by vibing near the Prayer Room site of grace a couple hours

There’s a few reasons you could want to go to the Haligtree. Depending on who you’ve fought/talked to, your character could easily be unaware that Miquella isn’t there (if you fought Mohg later, for instance). You could also be there to meet Millicent, as you agreed to, or wish to stop the spread of rot in general. A player could experience Caelid, hate it, and want to kill whatever made it that way to prevent it from happening again
