Real Lich Hours 9: Goblin Camp

Every summer, the children can't wait to get to Goblin Camp.

Real Lich Hours 9: Goblin Camp

The Volo Defender has logged on. Two years too late, unfortunately. 😔

Volo bog is in Northern Illinois on the Wisconsin border! I used to live across from it 😂

On PS5, I code items when finding them. I send all the poisons to Astarion, all the heavy armor to La’zel. Any trash to wares. Any food to camp. If my inventory fills up, I send any wares to camp to pick up later to sell. Whenever I find a new teleport point I go back and sell all my junk. It works for me, but it’s tedious.

Inventory hidden feature: If you click on an equipped item (like boots someone is wearing), a menu will pop up showing all available items that will go in that slot, whether they're equipped by other characters, marked as wares, etc. I wish there was something like that for consumables and clutter!

One of my first favorite moments in this game was those goblin children! You get in there and talk to them and you find out the corpse they’re fuckin with killed one of the goblin kids’ parents and made him and orphan. And if you kick the corpse the kids say you’re all right. And it was so sad and sweet all at once. Forever endeared me to Goblins.

I had a fun interaction with the chicken obstacle course also. I tried out the chicken race and only bet the 30 gold, I figured well if I muck it up as I probably will, being out 30 gold ain’t too bad at this point in the game, it won't break me but will be a minor bummer and if I win then hey I'm 30 gold richer. I chase this chicken around and it felt surprisingly easy to win this little game in the time limit, so I go back to the goblin to collect my winnings and she says something to the effect of "only goblins can play this” and basically cheated me out of my 30 gold and wasn't going to let me win and so I tried to persuade her but failed my persuasion check (I'm a warlock with high charisma, damn it!). She laughed at me but was still trying to get me to bet again and take more of my money, so I was like, ok you little shit you wanna play that game, so I planned to bet the full 300 and when she ran over to the box at the starting line to call over everyone to watch I'd have Astarion (my thief) hide in the shadows separately and pickpocket her and steal my money back and all of hers... I did exactly that then after I won the chicken chase again she was gonna taunt me about stealing my gold again and then realized that she'd been robbed and had no money at all and accused my main character who hadn't done it and I was like "it wasn't me" but since he wasn't the one who stole the gold (my thief did) she could tell I was telling the truth and couldn't do anything about it. I laughed and thought I had cleverly won this whole thing, and walked my group to the upper level of this obstacle course area for a different plan and forgot to have Astarion rejoin. I went to switch back to him to come join my party again and as I had him walking past the goblin gal who I'd just robbed, she was on his ass immediately and interrogating me. I was like "shit", he doesn't have the high persuasion/charisma like my warlock I'm gonna have to fight them or pay them back and lose on this plan I had to cheat the cheater. But, I took my shot at the deception response anyways, and rolled a nat 20. Holy shit that was lucky! Interesting side note: the two big ogre type enemies can’t climb the ladder to that upper area above the course (I did some goblin killing up there and found this out as I was afraid I’d be trapped up there with all of them angry and gunning for me with the ladder being the only entrance/exit but they were stuck at the bottom of the ladder angrily staring at my team who then peppered them with arrows and crossbow bolts until they were giant dead goblin-ogre pin cushions.)

1. I think an inventory similar to the inventory in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be awesome. It automatically divides items into the relevant screen so there’s less clutter. Plus, this is easy to manage on a console, as I play on Switch. 2. I pick up 3 backpacks and 4+ pouches for everyone in the party. One backpack is for scrolls, one is for personal weapons/clothes I like to switch out on my characters, and one is for random items (for example, Laz’ael carries all the tadpoles and the two brain jars from the nautiloid until you can consume tadpoles). I use one pouch for arrows, one pouch for potions and elixirs, one pouch for poisons and oils, and one pouch for throwable items. Other items live in general inventory. I also have similar backpacks in my traveler’s chest… one with armor, one with weapons, one with books I no longer need, and I’ve also started building backpacks for future companions like Halsin and so on, so that way they already have weapons and potions and stuff when they join the party. AND this takes me FOREVER to organize and manage. I spend literal hours doing this, but I feel like I need to do it, because my brain cannot process a cluttered inventory. 🫠 P.S. You can customize your quick bar by clicking the “unlock” button in the bottom right corner.

I'm playing on my OLED. I just ope the item menu and use the categories.

I suck at Long Rests because I grew up with resources being scarce in games that I hoard every item I find and hold onto them until I absolutely need to use them, so even on multiple playthroughs I still push on until everyone is pretty much near death before I force myself to rest. Then at the end of every act I’m doing like a dozen Long Rests without using supplies just to see what’s happening in camp. I’m the worst at this. Also, I appreciate you really breaking down some of this stuff every episode since this was my first exposure to any D&D and this game felt so overwhelming at first, and when I fire it up for another run I look forward to having a much better understanding of all the things I never used before because I didn’t really get what they did.

I'm super basic when it comes to managing my inventory on console. I just pick up everything with my main character. All weapons, armor, clothes, food, potions, alchemy ingredients, and anything worth 10+ gold then send it to camp when I'm encumbered. Then when I get to a merchant I go to camp in front of them and take all from the traveler chest and trade everything I need to, then send the leftovers back to camp again. Rinse repeat.

I always wind up listening to these on release day which is when I’m getting majority of my playing done. Loving the show, especially since I’m on my very first play through!

Josh Harris

You can bring up everyone’s inventory by hitting TAB and then you can search all the inventory at once. Real timesaver.

JJ Sutherland

It kills me having to wait a whole week for another episode 😂 — you guys are great!

This episode description hits real rough if you found Chop Chop.
