Real Lich Hours 11: Shattered Sanctum (Part 2)

You think maybe some tape might fix it?

So as to not just complain, I’m enjoying your show so much I’m complaining in an effort to make consuming it more convenient. Keep up the good work 🙃

This episode is missing the “Real Lich Hours” tag FYI

I loved that in Waukeen's Rest there's a dead drow on whom you can use Speak with Dead. You get up to the usual banalities you can have with the dead, but when you ask him his profession he meekly groans, "Male..." And Sanctuary! A godsend for Honor Mode. The trick to Honor Mode is not letting your whole active party be dead at the same time. If things look bad in a battle, I can have Shadowheart cast Sanctuary on herself and dash off for an early retreat. Withers can fix the rest of the party later.

jsyk the tag on this episode just says "Rea" lol. loving the show, would absolutely wear a Huckin' Rocks, Suckin' Cocks T-shirt

As a former Forgotten Realms deep diver, I'm gonna keep trying to add in some fun book references where I have them. On the topic of drow culture, while The Legend of Drizzt is an obvious reference point, I'd also point at the six book War of the Spider Queen series. Directed by RA Salvatore but written by six Realms "all star" authors like a mediocre literary Avengers, it chronicles an interesting conflict in which Lloth stops granting clerical powers for a bit (because chaos) and how the various drow cities plunged into anarchy in the process. Very good deep dive into the more fascinating and questionable parts of drow culture, like male led resistance groups, goblinoid slave rebellions, and the juicy house politics that actually make drow fun

After I cleared the sanctum I went to deal with the courtyard but what I did was cast invisibility on my ranger and fighter. They go through the main door and run to the balcony to the left of the chicken arena. My ranger with sharpshooter starts letting arrows fly while the fighter attacks and shoves people who climb up. All the enemies group together in front of the ladder so my other 2 party members are able to freely sneak behind them and deal great AOE damage.

Arguably the best fight in the game, agree. I wish they had one or two more like this.

I think if you knock her out she'll show up at Moonrise Towers later on, at least with the new patches. Don't quote me on that, though.

Is that one way to keep Minthara? Because look I really like her character build but I just can’t force myself to kill all the Druids. I just can’t. Did it one time and I was so sad. I know it’s just a game. 😞🤣

Just wanted to say I appreciated Baldurs Gate 3 actually giving good content to not only Gnome players, but DEEP gnome players. Me and my best friend started our first run together and they are an Jonas Sunspear. An immaculate elf paladin who is lawful good as lawful good gets, he also asked to be the”main character” and start all convos and cutscenes. I begrudgingly said yes and made my little Deep Gnome rogue shitbag I jokingly named “Little Jonas”. Skip forward to all the specific content tailored to gnomes and deep gnomes and our run-through becoming the erstwhile tale of “Little Jonas” made my play through an absolute delight and vindication for all fucked up little guys <3

Alpha vs nova strike. First move is always alpha, of course, nova is when you try to max out damage potential with character. You will tend to go super Nova on your alpha, use up action surge or gloom stalker bonus action, ect. I’m sorry if I sound silly adding this. Love the pod.

Fun thing I inadvertently discovered about breaking Halsin out of prison. In my exploring I stepped into the prison room and immediately walked back out as it wasn’t what I was looking for. I proceeded to completely forget about it and wipe out all the goblin leaders (meanwhile thinking “they must have taken that Halsin guy to those moonrise towers I keep hearing about”) Upon walking back into the prison, all the goblins were dead and Halsin was nowhere to be seen. He showed back up at the Grove and thanked me for the help. No clue if this is always the case, could be cool if it makes a roll on whether he survives or not. Needless to say, it’s a great way to miss out on some XP, a fight, and a proper introduction!

Just wanted to say that I've been going through a real rough patch personally, but one little joy of my life is playing through BG3 for the first time (I am currently 2/3 through act 2 I feel?) and listening to you two comment over previous encounters, reveal amazing details and explore the variety this game has to offer (e.g. I missed talking to the spiders completely!) I really appreciate it and all the work behind the scenes. Keep up your lightning charges, boys

Even when playing as a paladin I pretty much always tell Minthara where the druid grove is and subsequently betray her. Zevlor and Minthara both give these amazing performances, and the giant battle that ensues just tickles the part of me that wants a climatic showdown.

I found out the hard way that if Bear Halsin joins your party as a 5th member and he gets killed in the fighting, you cannot use a resurrection scroll on him since he isn’t technically a player character yet. I’m using Gary’s “what happens happens” style of playing, and so when Halsin got destroyed by Dror Ragzlin that meant I never got to recruit him.

Abe

My using the rafters in the Ragzlin fight took a humorous turn. When I attempted to shoot down the braziers, Ragzlin noticed and climbed up to scold me (the standard NPC noticed you doing something you shouldn't dialogue). While he was engaged in conversation with my main, Karlach walked up behind him and pushed him off the rafters all the way down into the spider pit.

Brian Sands

On Tactician / Honour the rafters are still great, with the added caveat that the goblins will throw void bulbs that pull you right off

Ryan Bennett

Totally makes sense that moon beam doesn’t do it because while it is a spell but it acts like a summon, like spiritual weapon which I would assume doesn’t break sanctuary either?

Mateus Silva

The ogres are also incredible against the Githyanki encounter in act 1 which is shockingly hard in tactician n honor.

Mateus Silva

I never knew about the smoke powder barrels in the camp, but I used the large supply of oil barrels in the beginning area of the Underdark to nuke Dror Ragzlin and his cronies rather then fight them in all my campaigns.

Speaking of getting everyone at the goblin camp mad at you, Carl Gimmiegold (thanks for the shoutout!) got in a fight with Crusher and a couple of his friends after he got all braggy. The camp actually doesn't mind this, and the randos that aren't part of the fight sort of just hang out and enjoy the show. I used non-fatal damage, and discovered that when his friends get down to like 1-2 health they shout some variant of "fuck this, not worth it" and absolutely bail on their dude, becoming non-hostile. Unfortunately, Carl Gimmiegold is a dual-wielder, and his follow-up strike doesn't ask for a prompt, but happens automatically. This means that one of Crusher's friends tapped out on a first strike, became non-hostile, then Carl's follow-up kicked in. This means that I'd technically attacked a non-hostile character, and now everyone at the camp is pissed. I managed to juggle the fight well enough to get everyone to escape, but I completely blew my chance at infiltrating the goblin camp for the crime of "we were just playing, but you took it too far."

Matt Bixler! Hello!

Don’t hate the Goblin, hate the Gob.

Karsomir

Thanks fellas. And only if you use that Gorilla Tape.
