This week we talk about the gold standard of interquels, Spider-Man: Miles Morales. How did Insomniac decide to distinguish playing as Miles Morales, the newer, younger Spider-Man? Isn't the cat in the backpack thing adorable? It is! The only way to find out is by hearing me tell you that the cat is so adorable. The cat's name is also Spider-Man!

One thing that I’ll always think is a massive downgrade from Arkham is how you enter set pieces. In Spider-Man you arrive, the screen fades to black, and the set piece is set up. In Arkham you can spot a predator area and swoop down to it however you want. Feels like the world is happening without you and you as the hero are intervening rather than just loading the next level.

The comics version was always way too harsh of a person/relationship to miles for me. It didn't have enough love. Felt very 1 note, atypical abusive family member, i think the layers this game and the movie added were very much additive.

2024-03-25 22:56:02 +0000 UTCI do find calling them both Spider Man confusing. It makes sense in Spiderverse because Parker is dead and he's the "new" Spider Man, but here it is a little awkward sounding. Also, why can no one write for him other than the movies?

In fact, I always read him more as a Malcom X-type character. I think that retcon has its origin in this game and was then brought to the movie and comics.
