Unfilmable 65: The Empty Man

Sigh. Another protagonist that doesn't seem to exist before the movie starts.
Try clicking the unfilmable tag, like on this episode, think some episodes might not be tagged but should be almost all of them, if not all of them

Forgive the noob question. (I’m new) - How did I get to a place where I can see all the unfilmable episodes in order? (On mobile devices) Now matter how I search I can only get the patreon feed to show up and have to scroll endlessly to get to undilmable episodes.

Of course! This list is not in order, I recommend all of these highly and if you like most of the material G & K cover in Unfilmable, I think you'll like them too

'The Hellbound Heart'- Clive Barker
'A Head Full of Ghosts'- Paul Tremblay
'Mexican Gothic'- Silvia Moreno-Garcia
'The Ritual'- Adam Nevill
'The Only Good Indians'- Stephen Graham Jones
'Annihilation'- Jeff Vandermeer
'The Ballad of Black Tom'- Victor LaValle
'The Fisherman'- John Langan
'We Have Always Lived in the Castle'- Shirley Jackson

I recently read The Fisherman and thought it was an excellent lovecraft-y book.

I've been wanting to try some horror novels myself. Do you have any suggestions?

Great pick Kole! Why can't cults just let me chill though? I'd sit and listen to Stephen Root talk about the infinite power of nothingness all day, but why do I have to shave my head and give them all my money?

Hearing this episode makes me wonder: do you guys read a lot of horror novels too? I've been on a kick the last couple of years and have a whole shelf full of possible recommendations but you might have read all of them already, haha

I haven't seen this movie, but I could tell there was a wink in the episode description. Just finished the episode and now realize just how clever that was. GG, Gwen

In the intersection of this movie and reading RPG sourcebooks for fun, this reminded me of a great short story from the God-Machine Chronicle fiction anthology, Ouroborous by Mark L S Stone. The anthology is available on Drive Thru RPG and this story is worth the price of admission alone IMO. It's even from San Francisco 😄

The first Tales From the Crypt movie (Demon Knight) is SO FUCKING FUN. If you have any love in your heart for From Dusk Til Dawn, I can’t recommend it enough.

Great episode! If you haven't and get the chance, check out AM 1200 - Prior's Lovecraftian short that played at the HPL Film Festival in Portland many years back. I think it's criminal he hasn't had more chances to make films because he's clearly really good at what he does.

Oh hey. This is a fun one. Sniffs around in Lynch territory to mixed results. Great opening.
