I loved my Great Old One Warlock's conversation with the fleshy mass of the Absolute through the crack in the wall. My option was "[Great Old One] Invite the presence in. There's always room for one more." I do, get a cutscene, and the Absolute appears as a big floating mass of tentacles like Hermaeus Mora and recognizes the artifact as an aberration. "You must come to me so I can be myself again," she says, which is an amazing bit of characterization for her.

Just now getting to the episode, but quick note on the risky ring. It's even more bonkers than it sounds on Rogues, because sneak attack just checks to see if you have advantage for it to work. So no need to cunning action hide before you sneak attack, you can save it for after your attack actions to hide again, or disengage/dash to a better position.

Oh, I'd love that! It seems wild to me that something so fundamental to this game and Gith history was invented by Larian.

Oh yeah. This is a good idea for a topic, but maybe a pretty weighty one. Orpheus might be new to BG3, but Vlaakith has been around since 2nd edition when I first started playing. -GB

As someone who's never played DnD but loves source books, I'm really interested in how Baldurs Gate lore crosses over with core DnD lore, and whether the events of Baldurs Gate are considered canon.
For instance, is there any mention of Vlakith and Orpheus outside of BG3?

Small but crucial correction regarding Concentration, and one I'm particularly sensitive to as this exact misunderstanding had me basically ignore Concentration spells as useless for much of my first playthrough the game:
Gary misspoke slightly when describing what ends Concentration Spells, saying "If you cast another Spell it breaks Concentration".
This matched my understanding for roughly 50 hours of game time, but it is incorrect.
"If you cast another Concentration Spell it will break Concentration on your current Concentration Spell, but casting non-Concentration Spells will not break Concentration." is the annoyingly more complex but importantly accurate description, as this distinction is what takes Concentration Spells from pointlessly-unusable to good-actually.

A little late, but I wanted to also share a Lae'zel romance story. On my honor mode playthrough, I romanced Lae'zel for the first time. She was a paladin of vengeance and I was a warlock. When she woke me for the fight, she opened with Haste, which I counterspelled, then chugged a potion of speed, threw a potion of sleep at me, and next turn hit me with a critical smite, taking me out in a single hit. I swear I thought the honor run was over but fortunately it stopped me at 1 hp. Afterwards she said, "Our wounds bind us," and I was like, "Whose wounds are we talking about here?!"

Just a quick clarification on Concentration checks. The 5E mechanic is that whenever a caster takes damage they make a Concentration Check (Con Saving Throw) with a Difficulty equal to 10 or half of the damage from the triggering attack, whichever is higher.

it hasn't triggered for me! I think camp triggers over writing one another is one of the more annoying bits in this game. Not a huge deal, but I definitely notice it. -GB

I'm currently doing a playthrough as Sharran loyalist Shadowheart, and have spent the whole game romancing everyone's favorite evil vampire. Being the power hungry monster I am, I forced Astarion to feed on Araj, leading to a dialogue where he broke up with me by telling me he was sick of having to throw himself at people for someone else's benefit. Apparently there is a way to get him to stay with you by gaslighting him and telling him he can throw himself at you whenever he wants, but some things are too dark for even my lady of loss. Instead Shadowheart is moving forward having learned a "lesson" from her goddess, while Astarion rides the bench in an act of supreme pettiness.

I mean, they know these clowns that they're working with pretty well. This is just a huge bus stop for absolute cultists that are gonna get either indoctrinated or fed to the colony in time. It's irritating that someone went and killed them but given how things seem to be going down when we get there, it's probably not the first time Ketheric has come through to a bunch of guys having killed each other.

Astarion actually tells you in camp after the Araj affair that he understands, that you were getting a powerful potion and it was the right move for him to drink the blood in retrospect but it still sucked and he hated it

Yeah but it’s better to me to just not have to deal with him being there at all especially on Honour Mode

You can go on the roof and kill the skeletons and necromancer even when Ketheric is up there. He doesn’t aggro until you get pretty close to him.

If you kill the Ogre upstairs, and talk to Z’rell and ask her to demonstrate her power. She’ll essentially have mind sex with you which is extremely weird but yeah.

Playing on Honour Mode or Tactician, one thing I will always do when I get to Moonrise is to sneak up unto the support beams on the first floor and then move towards the Throne room and jump over Ketheric as he is laying down his judgment on the goblins. I now have free access to the rest of the Tower without Z’rell or him being there so I just kill everyone, all the skeletons on the roof and loot everything. It makes the final parts of the assault on the tower a lot easier. It’s also extremely funny that when you’ve done this you can then trigger the scene with him, where he and Z’rell will move upstairs but they don’t seem to mind that everyone is dead.

So many great little nooks in this place. The little Z’rell nod the she’s is into your character is really fun when you betray this place.
