So, I've been keeping hush hush about it, but today me and my wonderful wife closed on an honest to goodness house. I know it's a huge privilege to be able to say that, and I sincerely never thought I'd be able to, and I wanted to say thank you.
I'm not exactly private about my upbringing on the shows and those who have paid attention, especially on shows like Abject Suffering, will know it was a little rough! One of the hardest parts was moving, constantly.
I remember driving around with a friend in my hometown, before I moved to Portland, and taking a tally of everywhere I had lived. It was 25 places by the time I was 25 years old, including cramped attics, friend's basements, and strange roommate situations at 15-16. I just counted today, and I've lived in 13 places in Portland. So, overall, not counting moves I don't remember from when I was pre-verbal, I've lived in about 38 places in 43 years. As you might imagine, it's not great for a sense of stability.
Growing up, it was definitely the hardest, because it's difficult to succeed in school and make friends when you can barely finish a year in a specific town. I also remember a bunch of times being woken up in the middle of the night to move. Sometimes it was temporary, sometimes not.
As an adult, my moves were the result of economics or breakups, but the feeling followed me. As long as I can remember, anywhere I live has a sense of feeling temporary and "Not For Me."
All this is to say that the idea of having a place that is mine, where, ideally, I can straight up live until I die is really, really poignant to me, and something I didn't dare hope for. But now, it seems, I've got it and I can start feeling like I have roots.
This is because of you, in large part! I call this a dream job all the time on shows, and it really is. I have Lucked Out with this. It's not that I don't work hard, or that I think I'm not talented, it's that I know, in my heart of hearts, that there are many people who work hard and are talented who don't find a generous audience like I did.
So thank you all for allowing me to make a living doing what I love, thank you to Kole for being my partner in all this. It's something that, had I gone back and in time and told Young Gary, who was sharing a one bedroom apartment owned by my mom's boyfriend, with a adult guy named Steve (I slept in the weight room), young me wouldn't believe it.
So again, THANK YOU.
PS: I'm not trying to compete in any sort of bad upbringing Olympics. I know many people who have had it rougher than I have, who have moved more often, who were victims of much more severe abuse/neglect. I know that my race, gender, sexuality are marked as "default" by society at large, and the challenges I've faced haven't been BECAUSE of those factors. I don't have anywhere I'm going with this, I just wanted to acknowledge the facts there.

You're two dudes who love games and want to know more about them, but you still share so much of yourselves in the in-between. Y'all give me and others comfort in our ear holes when we need it most. I've had a hell of a year, but it means something when I get a notification from this channel. You guys helped me a lot when I was homeless last year by just being a comfortable thing to listen to while I was walking around trying to waste the time. I'm rambling. I'm just really happy that over a decade of listening to you guys, your positions in life have only gotten better.
