Real Lich Hours 35: Moonrise Towers (Part 2)

Okay, but what if we SNEAK in there?

Real Lich Hours 35: Moonrise Towers (Part 2)

Comments

Not sure if anyone reads the comments of old episodes, but (apropos of corpse floors) I think act 2 of BG3 is the good Ravenloft game we never got. Sooo many areas gave me horror game vibes. Needs more vamps and mums, of course :)

In my first playthrough I made going to moonrise the very last thing I did before finishing act 2, and so it was just a giant raid/battle with the harpers with no extra scenes or context with anyone there. I got to Ketheric, where this all plays out as if you'd been there before like you were probably supposed to, leaving me in utter confusion. Also, going down to the prison everyone was killed and were brought back by the necromancers. So theres a bunch of zombies and a death shepard waiting for you along with the warden+guards. Long story short, make sure you go to moonrise sooner rather than later or you're just getting there to start a big ole fight later.

Update on me accidentally killing every single gnome before Act 2. I managed to free all the gnomes and tieflings in the Moonrise Towers dungeons without killing any of them. Progress! Nobody had given me instructions to save the gnomes of course, since anyone who would care were already dead, but I figured it would be best to anyway. The quest log informed me to go talk to Wulbren at The Last Light Inn. But when I arrived there, the game wouldn't let me, as the gnomes had nobody to reunite with, which I now understand to be part of that dialogue instance. Not until the very end of Act 2, when everything at Moonrise Towers had been dealt with, would Wulbren deign to speak to me. Uppety gnomes, what did I ever do to them?

Every time I’ve played the jail break, I bust the walls open myself from the tunnels and let the prisoners escape behind me while I charge the warden and her soldiers. You can get to the tunnels by jumping up a wall.

"I don't want pleasant things to happen" - statements that bring us one step closer to baiting Duckfeed into playing my RPG with its very normal fairies.

The funniest thing is when you put up a minor illusion of a cat to start a fight and everyone within 50 feet immediately goes WHAT THE FUCK I THOUGHT CATS WERE ILLEGAL

This is a real Chump Zone for the guys downstairs and is recommended once you're done buying things from everyone for all types of runs. You can use the stairs behind the throne as this pretty sad funnel where people will obligingly wander up in ones and twos and be converted into kibble instantly as they round the first flight. They all have the metal gear disease where as their numbers dwindle the fragile illusion of their actual behavior falls apart more and more

If you unchain the boat first

So my honor mode. I gave him no weapons and blew up the walls

I have gone upstairs and go drown using invisibility and sneak effects.

One of the answers for squire was show her scratches ball.

So Gortash sold Karlach to Zariel. Basically Zeriel was making a deal with Gortash (I think about the Crown) Zeriel needed a soul to try their new machine and Gortash sold Karlach to Zeriel saying that she would be able to handle it. You can learn a bit about Gortash from Karlach and Wyll.

I think the issue Gary had with trying to romance Astarion and Lae’Zel was due to her being strictly monogamous, not him. I romanced her my playthrough and she was very clear she wouldn’t let my pc romance anyone else, including Halsin or Mizora. I don’t know if Astarion is the same way (although it seems from your telling and this episode’s he might be), but Lae’Zel specifically has dialogue along the lines of “if you proceed too far down someone else’s romance I will break up with you.”

David Giza

Additionally, since the romance with Astarion has been ended now (and since the related scene for making him drink from Araj didn't trigger) - whether or not you make him drink her blood has a big effect on his romantic confession and can potentially also lead to ending his romance. I actually recommend looking up the scenes in both instances because he opens up a lot about how he was used by his previous master and it underlines a lot of the nuances to his character - it actually makes it difficult in later playthroughs to force him to do it once you understand exactly what that means to him (and I think results in a genuinely meaningful moral choice, because turning down a permanent +2 strength potion in a game with relatively few ways to permanently increase a stat is a considerable sacrifice, and it's very easy to self-justify going for the potion anyway)

Regarding romance - from my research it's not possible to maintain a romance with multiple Origin characters, but several companions (Astarion, Shadowheart and Karlach) are cool with you also romancing Halsin.

Just a rules clarification on Critical Hits. Kole had some 3.5 slipping into that discussion. Non-magical weapons don't have innate critical thresholds: all weapons crit on a 20. There a few magical weapons that expand that crit threshold, the Elixir of Viciousness and the Champion subclass expand the crit range extended beyond natural 20 to 19-20 or 18-20. It's super interesting that every attack roll, even for spells can trigger a crit. So a higher level Eldrith Blast gives you three chances to Crit. Same with a Scorching Ray. In D&D 3.5 each weapon had a critical threshold (and feat to manipulate it) and there were even "crit-fishing" builds that relied upon taking as many attacks as possible with the biggest crit-range you could manage.

This is where I discovered that Gale's cat familiar has a wonderful 'Meow' ability that lures nearby npcs over to it. This is also where is discovered the cat/Karlach tag team combo called the 'Meow and Push'

What if we sort of sneak in but mostly just exploit sightlines so we start and stop combat constantly as people go into Sense Hidden Presence Mode, then leave so I can Dread Ambush them again? -my honor mode run

May Shar help you then.
