Watch Out for Fireballs! 448: Illusion of Gaia (Premium)

This week we talk about Illusion of Gaia, an action RPG that completes the Quintet Trilogy… or quadrilogy? Depends which games you include. How does it stack up against the others, and which world cultures will it mangle for RPG melodrama? The only way to find out is to listen in.

This game sounds truly psychotic.

Oh sweet! This might be my favorite SNES game. The music is so haunting. Ok, I'll just play it again.

Fantastic ep, lots of really good capital G capital C Games Criticism among real joy about some really bizarre decisions and highlights the differences that really make it stand out in its era. Also, definitely better to listen here than to bother replaying. Just fantastic, up there with Bioshock Infinite for things worth listening to a bunch. Great job, guys.

One of my favs as a kid, played it when it first came out when I was 10. I remember the instruction booklet was super helpful and I referred to it a good amount, it had tips and I think rewards for the gem turn ins. The slavery part was pretty scary and gritty for me at 10 and I was legit sad with Seth's fate. Fantastic music, exploring the world, danger of slavery and russian roulette, friends dying, cool mystic shit, it was a hell of a journey back then!

Its strange that I get nostagic for this game, yet thr time I played it was in my college emulation days. Even the music brings me back....man.
