Real Lich Hours act 2 call for questions

What up my durges?

I'm putting out a call again for any obscure mechanic you'd like me to research for RLH, any spell or ability you'd like to hear us go deep on, any lore tidbit we missed talking about. I have tons of ideas for act 2 segments, and I still have the list from last time I did this, but I'm looking for more to shake it up.

Please reply here if you have requests!

I can’t remember if you touched upon this already but it would be great to have a primer on two handed weapons vs one handed weapons vs two one handed weapons handling. Specifically, in which circumstances is it better to do 2H vs 1H vs 1-1H. For example, does holding a shield on top of your staff affect mage stats? Does holding a one handed weapon deal more damage than holding that same one handed weapon with a weapon or shield in your off-hand? Thank you for the great work on this, I always look forward that pocket of time on my way to work or while running when I listen to this.

Since act 2 is all about darkness maybe you can explain lightly vs heavily obscured vs illuminated. A lot of items are related to this but i never could figure out a way to see which areas i could stand to get these conditions. Or how far radiating orbs would illuminate. I would just have to keep walking until the icon popped telling me

I would like to hear about the Shadar-Kai elves and their mistress the Queen of Ravens (Is she also Shar?) I dunno if you’ve covered the patrons of the Nine Hells cause I know Mephistopheles is mentioned in Act 2 and we run into an Orthon. I’m also curious about Orpheus and whether he is a Githzerai or just a Githyanki who rebelled. His clothing is very Githzerai-ish. Maybe this is more relevant to talk about in Act 3? The drider is an extremely cool and creepy looking enemy but I have no doubt you’ll talk about him. There is also that creature you fight inside a cavern in the Gauntlet of Shar which makes duplicates of itself. I think that’s the only of its kind you find in the game. There is the Selune Resistance alter beneath Last Light filled with Meenlocks and the story behind that quest is interesting in regards to the local history it reveals. And then there is the Dark Justiciar who made a deal with Raphael to turn himself into a thousand rats. Ah there is so much haha

This is the Durge struggle, my brother. -GB

Prestige dungeons in bg3 is a really good idea. There are only a couple of them, but I think they're both great. Also: what is a prestige dungeon? is a good idea. -GB

I accidentally murdered everyone at last light inn by talking to the pretty angel lady. Why must my friends die

What’s up with Ketchup Thorne? (Thanks autocorrect) In my play through, it felt like he came out of nowhere. I’m a little behind on RLH, so this might have been covered.

How does gauntlet of shar stack up against other all-time crpg dungeons(ie durlag’s tower), what do you look for in a good dungeon level in an rpg, what are the most memorable ones

This is a great idea. History of Jaheria, for example. -GB

You touched a bit briefly with this when yall talked about Volo in act 1, but with act 2 really leaning in on returning characters from previous games, and ever more increasing references from those earlier games making their way into BG3 it’d be nice to feature segments (as they are relevant to what you’re discussing) to do brief recaps (or not so brief in case of major characters) of relevant events from BG1/2 when they show up or are referenced in the game as you come across them.

Laezel’s development with her belief in Vlakith, up to the point you’ve reached in the story whenever you cover these questions. I went to Rosymorn before the Underdark. I don’t know the whole game plot yet because I’m early in Act 2. At Rosymorn I successfully persuaded her that Vlakith was a liar and betrayer. Her dialogue made me think she believed what the Guardian told us. Then in the Underdark whenever we read a part of the Prince Orpheus story, she called it Blasphemy and she seemed to defend Vlakith as the true ruler. I’m not sure which of these is true: Does the game simply not account for Laezel learning about Vlakith and Orpheus in this order? Did she revert back to believing in Vlakith, and that’s part of her struggle regardless of the order between the Underdark and Rosymorn? Did I just misread her confusing personality?

This is 100% going in the act 2 wrap up, or possibly the episode about the city. -GB

I think Raphael’s little henchmen and all the times she can spawn and watch you. How does that work? So more broadly, timed events: Rolan being killed by shadows, the haflings being killed by the gith at the crèche, things where the game expects you to have reflexes almost? Cause things things can happen and sometimes you can like hit turn based and effect these events. Roah Moonglow running away during the minsc encounter is a lesser example of this cause you can just stop her somehow.

I've heard that Act 2 is the Shadowheart chapter, and I don't care for her enough that it's keeping me from getting back into the game. I don't expect to get a second playthrough, so how detrimental is it to the experience to ignore her completely during this Act?

Mechanics: I can’t remember if you covered this, but the way multiclassing works in the game. In 3.5e, I always felt multi was a terrible road, losing access to higher level spells. Is it 5e or BG3 or both that make it so fun now? Content: Covering how all the weird little bosses connect to Thorm. The dude in the bar, the tollkeeper, etc. Love the show!

Mods would be interesting to dive into, especially with official mod support upcoming. I’m particularly excited for the mod to break party limit. One weird ludonarrative dissonance thing for me is that most of the party members sit back at camp while the adventure unfolds.

I request a lore breakdown of what the timeline is of the Shadowlands and Kethric Thorme’s whole deal. When did he change gods and why and which family members died when and when were they resurrected or turned into MGS villains.

Karsomir

This is a great idea!

Don't think you've gone into depth on how non-lethal damage works. So how to inflict it, what abilities/weapons/spells can be used for it, when unconscious people awaken and benefits of going non-lethal. And there's a lot on the hotbar, makes it easy to miss things, so would be a good PSA.
