Real Lich Hours 27: Saving the Last Light

I'm assuming we're talking about lighters.

I’ve beaten this game 4 times and have never even heard of a YONUS lmao

i know what Gary meant re: His Majesty vs Astarion but it was still very funny to hear "well, Astarion's very gay coded, His Majesty is more 'old British actor' coded" and think "so, also gay coded then"

Comment on Ketheric Thorm/The Shadowlands - This is the point at which the game started to feel like Baldur's Gate to me. Act 1 mentioned the city but seemed to have few links or references to the main plot or themes of the original 'trilogy' (for a non-Dark Urge, at least). By contrast, the entirety of Act 2 does what BG games do so well which is use Dungeon ecology and environmental storytelling to set up a brilliant and interesting villain (Thorm) long before you get to meet them. You interact with them via the broken people and creatures they have left behind, and piece together a tragic and hubristic rise and fall, before unveiling the dark bargain they have made to cling to 'life' and continue to seek power. It's Irenicus, it's Sarevok, it's Durlag and it's everything the original series excelled at. Then shortly after Act 2 you meet Orin proper and the other Boot of Evoking Nostalgia +1 drops...

Fun fact about Elminster's visit: If you examine his character, the game lists him as a Construct instead of a Humanoid. And if you kill him, he drops no loot and just leaves a puddle of water behind instead of a body. This is a reference to the D&D 5e spell Simulacrum, in which a wizard creates an "illusory duplicate" out of snow or ice. So, it seems like this isn't the real Elminster, just a copy he created to take this message to Gale. It makes his grousing about food and the long journey more funny, since the real Elminster has likely been sitting comfortably at home this whole time.

Lae'zel's dialog in camp saying "I have not sinned against Vlaakith, Vlaakith has sinned against me," is seriously so cool. It's so well voice acted. Lae'zel has all of this build-up through the entirety of Act 1 about how much faith she has in Vlakith to fix the tadpole problems that other options aren't even worth considering. And then we get to see her being betrayed by her religion and coming to the realization of what happened. So fucking badass.

Most of my play throughs are redemption dark urge (love the cape ) but I love talking my way out of fights. So the Drider I talk him out of his lamp all the time. One time I was playing a sorcerer and when they say “how can we be safe from the shadows-or something like that. One option is pretend to do a magic spell and wave your hands around and stay there now you’re protected. 😂😂

First evil play through forgot about needing torches and whole party died from shadow curse.

Got behind a bit in listening so I'm posting this here in regards to the warlock talk a few episodes, hope that's OK. For my money the best use I've gotten out of warlocks in BG3 is as multiclass bait for bards. Two levels in warlock gets you eldritch blast, which scales with player level so you still get the 2nd and 3rd rays at 5 & 10. Plus the invocations to add your charisma mod and add a feature to the Ray. I used the knockback bonus on mine. I found it helpful on my Valor bard to give some sustained damage options that didn't require spell slots and having a spammable force damage spell is helpful at times for beating up structures.

Something I like with Karlach fangirling about Jaheria is the restraint the writers have that only she does it. Some legacy sequels have everyone do it and characters fall over one another talking about how cool the original was and it just feels like the writer letting us know they're also a fan. So while I'm right there with Karlach as a BG 1 & 2 fan, it also doesn't take me out but rather speaks to her specific character growing up idolising and wanting to emulate these heroes of old.

Gonna need Sora for this one. I wonder if they'll make a KH joke through these shadow places.
