Real Lich Hours 28: The Fall of the Last Light

My bad everyone.

Real Lich Hours 28: The Fall of the Last Light

My first character, a fighter named Shrimpette, is a basically good person. She’s doing everything right, but I’m allowing for a good amount of “what happens if I do this dumbass thing?” stuff. Either way though, I really love those Tieflings. I sided with them, I did everything I could I Act 1 to be their friends. But I did something wrong in Act 2. I had my happy reunion with Mol, saw the bard, caught up with the Wizard Tiefling, met the wonderful kitty. But then I went up to the second floor of the Last Light Inn before talking to Jaheira, which apparently is a big no no. First Marcus (don’t mind if I do!) took out Isabel almost immediately and all and I mean ALL the Tieflings died. Every last one. I was wondering if I should reload, because that one’s such a critical fail, such a state change for what my character is fighting for, but I decided to just sort of let it inform the rest of my playthrough. After this happened my character got a lot more ruthless. She made darker choices. Became more of an “at any cost” type person. Still very much making the good choices, still trying to be a good person, but less willing to forgive, less willing to stand down. My second playthrough is almost to this sequence and I’m going to try EVERYTHING to keep these fucking Tieflings alive. I’ll save scum, I don’t give a shit. See, Astarion has been my badboy. I’ve been feeding HIM the wormies. He wants em! Give him the grubs! My Druid character, Jungleman, is not ethically compromised, I’m a pure beacon of good on Playthrough 2. I’m not using my wormy powers. I’m not messing around with the [spoiler character]. Me me good boy. Anyway. Heartbreaking moment.

Catching up on older eps because I hadn’t reached Act 2 on my Durge run. In a previous play thru where Last Light fell, Jaheira explains that she has Isobel’s blessing which is why she doesn’t turn.

A friendly PSA in case you or any of the listeners didn't know: at the long rest screen where you select what camp supplies to use there is a button that says partial rest at the bottom of the screen. If you push it you won't use any supplies, but will only heal half hp and recover some of your spells. You won't get back used short rests either. However, it's a good way to cycle time to view camp scenes without wasting a bunch of food. It's not a perfect solution and it does still pass time so it will screw up any time sensitive events you're in the middle of but it is a way to try and trigger any scenes you might be missing without wasting supplies. It's not the greatest solution but if you're worried about missing stuff or know a scene should have triggered but haven't seen it yet it is a fiddly way to try and fix things. That said, some of those scenes might also have specific triggers tied to what you've done or companion approval or something so it still seems likely you might miss some in a playthrough even if you were doing this. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. It might also not be an option in honor mode.

Yea I'm likewise trying to run as many new classes as possible. My first run was largely Barbarian, Cleric, Paladin, Wizard so now I'm running Druid, Monk, Rouge, Sorcerer. I might swap out for a Warlock as well as they really interest me. I am also trying to work up the nerve to dip into Mylticlassing for the first time but it is kind of intimidating. How about a player's handbook fellas!

That's an idea! I'd have to figure out who is going to pick my locks, but I might experiment with that. Right now my plan is to bring all the classes I haven't played with into either my Honor Mode run or my co op run on PS5 when it arrives. -GB

I keep reading "RLH" as "Rune Level H" since I watch so many challenge runs on YouTube (e.g., Lobos vids with titles like "RL1 NG+8 Roll Only"). I think the "H" is probably pronounced "Haitch."

I feel you could justify changing Charnum to a Rouge roleplaying wise by having it connected to his memories/identity returning. Especially is you make him an arcane rouge as he will still have magical ability like when he was a sorcerer. I think a Warlock would be an interesting choise as well mechanically. They can be more melee focused than other casters with the right subclass (Pact of the Blade). Plus it would be a novel experience for Gary and give you a deeper understanding of the class.

I’m catching up on older episodes so I thought this would be worth sharing: I completely missed Rosymorn and the crèche on my first playthrough, so I’m one of those weirdos! In that run, I made it to the end of Act 2 before deciding to restart the game for a variety of reasons, but I made it all the way to Baldur’s Gate without knowing anything about Vlaakith or the gith situation. At the time, I thought you had to choose the Underdark *or* the mountain pass, not both, and since I didn’t have Lae’zel in my party, I chose the Underdark. Among other things, notable events included Lae’zel leaving my party in disgust to go seek out the crèche and never having Voss show up and ask for my help.

Regarding Driders… I’ve been keeping up with RA Salvatore FR novels since I was 10, and in the recent series Drizzt’s brother Dinin who was cursed to be a drider early in the zillion book series gets changed back and there is a sympathetic drider subplot. It’s been a part of Salvatore rehabilitating the racist tropes related to the drow over the past 6 books or so. Still all goofy shit, but super fun.

You just HAD to trust that "Angel", eh?
