Real Lich Hours 30: Ruined Battlefield (Part 2)

I think you should consider bowing down to the Raven Queen.

The way Larian is going about modding the game is very promising. In DOS2 they allow players to make their own campaigns, I’ve heard. It would be very interesting to see the campaigns people can make in bg3, especially if they incorporate enemies that you only see once in the main game.

Yup! My monk is running the Eversight ring, and shadowcloaked ring. So one of my martial classes can easily use an arrow of darkness to isolate an enemy or a group of enemies and then my monk can go in and do a ton of damage with these rings. In addition, if you place the darkness effect so enemies are right on the outer edge then the rest of your party can have advantage on their melee attacks from the outside. Great for anyone with the great weapon master feat. I do agree though that it would have been nice to have a couple more pieces of gear which interact with you or your target being obscured. It feels like half of a set as is.

In my camp in the ruined battlefields, I had a Declaration of Love scene with Laezel that went differently from what Gary described. It was a moment where I thought, “This is hilarious, but did anyone ever think the game mechanics would play out this way?” I saved the potions from Auntie Ethel’s lair, and my party had been carrying them around because I wanted to throw them all at enemies and see what happens. Wanted—past tense. I learned my lesson now. I’m on Tactician mode and I’ve been romancing Laezel. After a long wait between the first and second romantic encounter, she woke me during a long rest. She said she wanted me to prove my worth by fighting her, so we began combat. I took a swing. Then for her first turn she tried to buff up with a potion. She pulled out Ethel’s Broken Promise potion and chugged it before my horrified eyes. She enjoyed a temporary strength buff on her second action, but then I defeated her. I quickly looked up her character status and found that Broken Promise gave her a permanent -1 strength debuff. The flavor of this unexpected act of stupidity was delicious. I considered reloading my last save to replay the situation without evil potions, but I’m keeping the debuff so I can frequently think “Kili the Duergar Durge cares for you Laezel, but my god you are a dumbass and you have put us in a predicament.” What would each of your play styles lead you to do? Would you load your last save, remove the evil potions, and replay that encounter? Or would you decide to play the entirety of Acts 2 and 3 with a debuffed Laezel on Tactician? I may replace her with Minthara—my other lover and fellow crooked soul—for much of the game anyway.

Good catch. I had a wiki page open to refresh my memory and might have misread. I'll issue a correction, but sadly it'll have to wait until we get to the Mausoleum episode, as we've recorded about Reithwin already! Thank you! -GB

Quick correction about something that was said relating to items that can grant defensive bonuses when the wearer is obscured. While these items are cool, there are also a bunch of other pieces of equipment you can find that actually give bonuses to attack attributes when obscured - as opposed to just defensive ones. The ones that come to mind (and I have not finished Act 3 yet, so there may be others) are the Covert Cowl and the Knife of the Undermountain, both of which reduce the number that the character needs to roll to crit. Not only is this super powerful, it also works so well from a roll play perspective - it makes sense you can more easily hit your enemy's vital parts when they expect you the least! Last but not least, the effect STACKS. That means my Astarion can crit by rolling 20, 19, or 18. Or even 17 if you drink an Elixir of Viciousness. I love this so much.

The idea of the Dead Three as a thruple is very funny. The FR wiki says: "Jergal willingly stepped aside, claiming that he was happy to grant his powers to one of the trio. He offered his guidance to the new ruler, until they were ready to oversee the dead on their own, then asked which among them would take their seat on the throne. At this point they returned to squabbling and a fierce fight broke out between the former friends. Indifferent to their wants, but not wanting to see them battle for eternity or die from exhaustion, Jergal resolved their dispute with a game of skill." So I guess they would spend a lot of time bickering and hate fucking. Bane is of course the dommiest dom in Domtown. All he cares about is dominating others. "ruler for all eternity as the ultimate tyrant" - okay. Bhaal seems like he is really more of a sadist than anything else but he did dominate his followers sometimes and he dominated the Earthmother for a while until he killed her. Myrkul seems like he's the definition of "topping from the bottom." Has a very weak appearance and demeanor but is obsessed with making sure everyone knows how important he is. He's also really smug about how he can't die since he's dead. So yeah, absolute nightmare disaster polycule always trying to assert dominance over each other.

The tower that has the severed head in a bird's nest also has a headless corpse at the bottom of it. I tried looting the head, placing it on the corpse and casting speak with dead but unfortunately nothing happened. I wasn't too disappointed because Larian has done more than enough with this type of interaction, but I was pretty excited thinking I found a cool and clever secret. Love the show(s!) thanks for always producing friendly/funny evergreen content. ❤️

Bhaalyamory representation.

That’s amazing haha

The thing about the Gale scene under the magic sky is that you can do it completely platonically without there being flirtiness whatsoever as long as you avoid picking the dialogue that eggs him on earlier in the game (post Goblin Camp). It’s a nice little scene too when there isn’t any romance involved.

Just east of Reithwin, sort of south east-ish. -GB

Seems to be beginning of act 2. I think once the druid's go down, she spawns in Moonrise, but it's _possible_ the trigger iater. I'll look it up! GB

Where is the Tower where you find the Hyena? I’ve never see this

Few things I've been meaning to write in about: 1) If you are a Pact of the Chain warlock, you also get the choice of summoning an imp or quazit. Which are much more useful then the normal set of animals. Later on you can upgrade them to have two attacks. They aren't game breaking by any means but having a little guy that can fly, go invisible, cast fear etc is a nice party addition. 2) If you ambush the caravan with the Drider with the Harpers, you can pop out and use your True Soul abilities to tell them to give you their lantern. They will argue that without it they will surely die on the way back to Moonrise. But you can just say "you dare question the will of the Absolute? No harm will come to you. Have faith!" They look around nervously and go..... uhhh okayyy...., march off into the shadow curse and you can hear them get violently murdered. 3) A question for you. What is the earliest you can get Minthara in your party? Would I be able to speedrun the fall of the Druid's grove, book it to Moonrise, grab Minthara and then head back to Act 1 to do all the Aunty Ethel, Underdark, etc stuff?

As I found out on my first playthrough, if you mess with Dolly Thrice but then let her out, she still gives you the bell and blessing, but also curses the character who tortured her. It gives them clown makeup until you are able to cast Remove Curse.

Hmm, what are the benefits?
