If Wyll is in your party as well as Karlach, you will not have to pass a check to convince Karlach not to fight. Wyll will mention that fighting could put his father in danger and you are given an option to agree with him which doesn't require a check, and Karlach cools down. It’s interesting because Mizora will appear and suggest you take Wyll with you to the coronation, which I feel works both for lore since she enjoys taunting Wyll but also it works as the game suggesting you take this character with you because it will be helpful gameplay-wise.

When I was doing the Steel Watch Foundry quest and slowly finding out the truth of how they were made it was maybe my biggest holy shit moment of the game. I thought it was so sinister and the environmental storytelling that gives you all of the pieces of that puzzle was such a great reveal! Maybe this was more obvious from the jump if you’re more familiar with the setting, but it totally floored me (in a good way) to discover the depths of cruelty involved in making them.

Instead of starting a big fight like we expected, she charged in alone and got hauled off to jail by a Steel Watcher. We had to go break her out of prison afterwards. Got a two for one since Florrick was down there too but it was probably the best outcome. The fight would most likely have been a huge mess.
