Regarding What Just Happened

It felt right to take a break from our normal programming (talking about things that don't matter) to process our feelings about what just happened this week in American politics. It's not our expectation that you share our exact values when it comes to electoral outcomes, but our bet is that you're pretty similar to us in feeling pretty bad about Trump winning a second term. If that's the case, we hope that this is of some value to you in helping you figure out a way forward, to make a positive difference for the people closest to you.

Related to this, please save the date for DuckStream 2024. The weekend of December 5-7, we will be holding a 48 hour streaming marathon to benefit the TransActive Gender Project out of Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon. It will be broadcast live on the Duckfeed Twitch channel, which you can follow now to get notifications. More details about the event will be coming shortly.

We're not going anywhere. We'll keep doing our best to be entertaining and distracting for when you need that. We stand with the marginalized and vulnerable, and wish you all the good fortune and resolve to be in the fight for as long as possible.

This was honestly one of the sole pieces of culture I engaged with all week that felt comforting and soothed my brain. Thanks, guys.

As an indigenous person I think that is too easy an answer, I think it’s simply that she was never a good candidate. People would love to vote for a someone but her record in California was shameful, she was an unabashed imperialist, unpopular policy in the Middle East, failing to acknowledge the pain the working class is experiencing, and did not offer any policy or plan beyond not being Trump. Trump won because of increasing votes from the youth, Hispanic, and black voters. And it’s not because the whole country is racist and sexist, despite what they want us to believe. The DNC has abandoned the working class and their values in a cloud of hubris, austerity, and corporate service to the donor class and military industrial complex - and it is the vulnerable who suffer most due to their corruption.

Justin Zode

Of course, I am just sharing my frustration with the DNC and the results of the election that came from their hubris and elitism.

Justin Zode

you know duckfeed isn't the DNC right

Dylan Kilby

Thank you for this. Gives me so much hope to know people like you (and all of us) are out there. We will survive and we will take care of each other. Never thought a goofy video game podcast could be such a force for good in my life and in the world, but here we are. Stay strong everyone.

Len Schmidt

Peace and love

Soulful Bison

Yeah that didn't help. Also though because the Democratic party has been captured by corporate and imperial interests for about 40 years or so. They ran on the 2016 playbook -- run to the right, brand yourself as the establishment party, and "for every working-class vote you lose, gain two in the suburbs". It was a shit campaign then and it's a shit campaign now. Turns out Republicans vote for Republicans and, like Bernie said: a party that abandons the working-class shouldn't be surprised when the working class abandons them.

Cameron M Still

As a non American, it’s always lovely to be reminded that it’s ’not all Americans’. Hearing you speak like this gives me a tiny glimmer of hope in a darkening world.

Tommy Baker

A message to democrats - Who thought this was a good idea? A question for democratic voters - Why do you let them get away with and support this shit? Anyone got anything to add to the list? Rigging 3 presidential primaries in a row Democrats propping up Don to win his nomination - because they wanted to run against him Not holding any semblance of a legitimate and meaningful primary in 2023/24 6+ states not counted in the primary robbing millions of democrats of their votes, essentially declaring Biden the winner Joe running for a 2nd term No primary debates - where candidates are battle tested and hardened Run a candidate who literally received 0 votes from the public in the primary Run a candidate who earned 0 delegates from the public in the primary Reordering the 2024 primary to favor Biden Run on the message democracy is at stake when they didn’t follow a democratic process in the primary - hypocrites Run an establishment candidate vs and anti establishment candidate Run a candidate who was VP in and admin major wars were started under Run a candidate supporting ethnic cleansing Run a candidate supporting genocide Gaslighting, lecturing, vote shaming, guilt shaming and fear mongering voters Covering up and lying about Biden’s mental health for years Ignoring concerns of Arab and Muslim voters when their people are being killed by our weapons Ignoring their base and crushing the left wing of their party Democrats strategy of supporting pro life republicans over pro choice left wing democrats Smearing and attacking people with legitimate and good faith criticism Telling voters to be quiet she is speaking as they were raising concerns about Gaza Running a candidate with a record number of billionaire donors Raised over $1,000,000,000 and still lost Running on a message of joy with celebrities and music when the country is experiencing economic insecurity with housing, food and healthcare, massive student loan debt, on the brink of a multi front war against nuclear armed countries and people facing extreme climate change events like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and flooding Run a candidate who couldn't handle softball media fluff job interviews Brag about how great bidenomics is when the economy is in shambles and people are struggling with basic necessities Campaign and buddy up with neocon bush right wing war criminals and brag about it Switching candidates, only giving the nominee a little over 3 months to campaign Campaign on how good dems are on the environment when in several ways they were worse than trump, who was worse than obama, who was worse than bush Not campaigning on bread and butter issues Run a candidate who is part of an admin that fell short and failed to deliver on (or at least not get caught fighting for) campaign promises - they just kind of forgot about them Run a candidate against universal healthcare Not campaigning in some major cities in swings states Run cultural/political ads with men not getting dates because they didn’t vote Run a candidate that flip flopped on positions/issues faster than coconuts fall out of trees Discriminate against Arab/Muslim voters at the dnc convention and campaign events Committing to continued support for genocide Running a candidate who said they wouldn’t do anything different from Biden - a historically unpopular admin Run a candidate tied to record high inflation Run a candidate with ties to Blackrock advising her campaign Run a campaign with right wing policies Run a candidate in an admin with an approval rating in the high 30s Run a candidate that got destroyed in the 2020 primary who had to drop out before Iowa Run a candidate who is a corrupt corporate empty suit Run a candidate who cosponsored a bill with Marco Rubio in favor of illegal settlements in West Bank Run a candidate who locked up over 1500 people for smoking weed and laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked Run a candidate that was labeled the “border czar” when she got caught on cable news saying she hasn't been to the border during an election when it was a top concern of voters Run a candidate who blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until she was forced to Run a candidate who is a multi millionaire index investor with dozens of holdings in diversified index funds Run a candidate who put parents in jail for their kids missing school Run a candidate whose father denounced her on behalf of their family Run a candidate who refused to prosecute Steve Mnuchin’s bank Run a candidate who kept people in prison beyond their sentences in CA to use them as cheap labor Waiting over 3 weeks to launch a campaign platform Who thought any of this was a winning idea? Maybe do some self reflection? Maybe fix all of these things and get better results? At least think about it?

Justin Zode

Part of the reason I was able to transition and live a much happier, more fulfilling life was because spaces like Duckfeed exist. I'll be grateful for that for the rest of my life.

Autumn M

The Duke of Nebraska

Took the dogs for a walk and needed a listen like this. Love you guys too as humans

thosewholeft

Been with you guys for years as a trans gamer and you provide one of the smartest, kindest spaces for people like me, especially now that so many game spaces are more and more bigoted. Thank you for doing what you do.

Cael Keegan

Stay strong! I just hope that Europeans will learn from this and prevent a similar development by addressing economic insecurities. In Germany there is a government crisis right now and I’m really worried about the results of the upcoming election…

Simon J. Popp

Thank you both, so much. I am so grateful for your words of strength, solidarity, compassion, and praxis. You helped me through a painful divorce in 2017/8, when everything was already so grim, and I appreciate you possibly even more now. I hadn’t cried until listening to you tonight, but I’ll wipe the tears away and help however I can. Just thank you

Morgan

Um. Thank you. I have been feeling low. To hear you and have that small reaction and connection. Important.

Douglas

Thanks so much for this, especially the sentiment of being done with “have you seen this shit?” I don’t know if I can completely stop it, but hearing it put into words makes me really want to try. For me I just feel incredibly raw right now and have been on verge of tears for no specific reason pretty constantly. I don’t have a point to make I guess just needed to type this out somewhere. So thanks for that too. :)

Adam Reinardy

Appreciate this guys

Really looking forward to the stream and sending some aid to comrades and comrades-to-be! The 2016 election fucked my brain up but that horrible experience was a direct line to me and my buddies unionizing. I had zero hope at all but those people stuck to it because they were pissed off, too. And we annihilated the vote. Every year that one thing we did puts millions of dollars back into the pockets of my community, and now, five other communities in the country. Families I do not know and will never meet get to eat better because of us. The peace of mind I get from that keeps me from going insane as things elsewhere continue to get worse. I highly suggest organizing as a way to deal. Throw your outrage right back in those fuckers’ faces. Nothing compares to how good that feels. Best of luck, folks. Stay strong. There’s more of us. We have the numbers. Just gotta organize them.

Billiam

I can't tell you how nice it is to see this post from you guys. Can't wait to give it a listen!

Sigmond

True, but I meant what I've seen on social media. Me personally, I'll always be fine no matter what happens because "For me, it's always like this".

Cinnamon Toast Cunt

Nothing wrong with focusing on practical things you can actually do, imo. -GB

I'm glad to hear the same feeling coming from other people. I've been feeling pretty defeated this week due to a combination of things. Just been trying to do the things I can control as well.

Justin Schmidt

Appreciate you guys. Probably more than you know. This too shall pass.

Roy D Rushing

Apologies for the third comment in a row but I do just want to say, I cannot stress how much I appreciate your work. Stumbling upon bonfireside chat got me through a turbulent year of university and then some. Certainly in part due to your sincerity. Glad you guys stick to your values, especially when it comes to acknowledging that these problems have already existed. Much love

Goldie

I'm not feeling great about this but some of the sting is taken away knowing that unless something happens to the constitution (seems highly unlikely) this is his last term and there isn't really a replacement Trump waiting in the wings. Just gonna unplug from social media for the next year or so and focus on surviving and helping out friends and family. Thanks again for all you guys do. Take care of yourselves.

greyrain

If you're looking for a better game than Tactics Ogre to use as a point of inspiration, Night in the Woods' "At the end of everything, hold on to anything" has carried me through more than one hard time.

Matt Bixler! Hello!

This put kinda how im feeling into words thank you for putting this out. Im scared for the women and lgbtq people in my life and we are only served by lifting each other up. Be strong friends apathy is the enemy of progress

Kyle Wiswell

"If you're just hearing this from us now... I'm sorry." That gave me a pretty good laugh. Thanks.

Btw— if folks are looking to help at the moment, I suggest donating to Palestinian causes. If anyone is still on twitter, here is a link to donate to the Gaza Housing Fund (op also has other important causes on their page) https://x.com/normalarab/status/1851960134827741277?s=46&t=jtdYdm9Sf8Rs4ekaqE7yYw and if you don't, the venmo is three-dee & the paypal is deesturbance and they ask to use the emoji 🏠 in the note to show what the donation is for. You can help someone today, especially in a genocide still on-going. ❤️

Goldie

Y'all have provided me with countless hours of entertainment and distraction over the years. Thank you for being good people on top of that.

Mike Suskie

God bless, guys. Thanks for doing what you do.

Typhoon Jim

As a queer man, thank you for the sentiments. I also fear for our undocumented neighbors and friends. Appreciate your content, as always!

Shawn Brick

Have always been raised with the knowledge that the world is full of terrible people, so you have to do good. My people's history has seen unimaginable loss & devastation—it is imperative to live. Don't you dare go hollow. ❤️

Goldie

Not seeing as much rage as before just a silent, acceptance of imminent catastrophe.

Cinnamon Toast Cunt

You guys have provided some much needed comfort and distraction while processing some very intense feelings. Thanks for everything you do!

Corva Cobb

Appreciate the sentiments

I’m absolutely destroyed right now. Not for myself but for my wife and daughters and all the LGBTQ people in my life. I’m a cis white male I’ll be fine but I’m absolutely terrified about the future that’s in store for the most important people in my life. I’ve felt nothing but nausea and rage all week.

Dewayne Kinnard

Thanks very much for this, guys. I love the Duckfeed content, but I just as much appreciate the vibes and commitment you all have to using the platform to help make the world/country a better place for others. Whether that's DuckStream or giving shout-outs to projects at the end of episodes (I've checked out a lot of them!). I had already planned on donating during DuckStream, but I'm going to make my donation a bit bigger now. Not that the cause mattered any less beforehand, I just would like to do more since I can. Hope you all are doing alright too!

Dylan Kilby

I'm with you guys %100

Matthew Allen

Love you guys. Thank you for everything you say and do.

Thanks, guys
