Bonfireside Chat 298: Across the Great Ellac Bridge

The Great Ellac Bridge crosses a dividing line in the Gravesite Plain, a large canyon that stands between the ground we’ve already covered and Castle Ensis. The far side is fortified and narrow, but has many mysteries to explore before we head into the castle itself. This week we tackle castle-front encampment before heading north into a misty valley to delve into the Fog Rift Catacombs, where Godwyn and his forces are working toward mysterious ends.

The fire perfume bottle with the Rolling Sparks ash of war is still very powerful even post patch. Definitely recommend it with the right set up 🙌🏻

I’ve continued looking at omen and hornsent connections specifically this run and it just hit me how similar the dung eater’s sun emblem is to the furnace golem’s visage. I wonder if there’s intentionality there? Is that meant to imply that part of dung eater’s curse is in vengeance against the golden order for what happened to the hornsent? (Does he know anything about it? Is that what omens dream about that gives them such a restless sleep?) It definitely raises the narrative value for that ending for me, personally. Instead of just being some “why is this even here?” ending it kind of feels like it works as a hornsent v golden order ending..

I am bummed you guys didn't spotlight the death knights twin axes that you get from the boss fight. They have an amazing ash of war that turns you into the tasmanian devil. They and there great axe sibling are also some of the few good fatih scaling lightning weapons.

The vulgar militia getting zero extra lore flavor was a disappointment, especially since their supposed connection to Maliketh wasn’t at all elaborated on. It also reminds me of another lore disappointment in the DLC; in the Land of SHADOWS we don’t see anything about the Shadows crafted for Empyreans. Maliketh is supposedly Marika’s half-sibling, but has no solid lore connection to the place of her origin? Could have been a neat way to connect Farum Azula with the Hornsent civilization, beyond just chasing Bayle to their backyard.

Sanitier's Spear. We were misremembering it as a sword -GB

The designs of the death knights rock so hard. The moment I realized that Godwyn's personal knights had turned into skeletons with cloaks of deathly wings & followed his spread into the land of shadow, I was elated. I can practically hear some sickass metal guitar riff blaring as I'm saying all this so I'm making a band called Cadaver Surrogate expeditiously. Godwyn's some annihilation-esque horror that I love. Re: the dragons who wielded red lightning I personally take that as Bayle's side vs Placidusax's side wasn't as cut and dry as "drakes vs ancient dragons", so it's possible that ancient dragons of red lightning were loyal to Bayle, and even drakes to Placidusax.

I’d honestly love to get another DLC with Godwyn and Melina content, but maybe that’s just me!
