Comments

Jaheira has the hands-down best reaction to Myrkul. “Hell death, I like your hat!”

Matt

Paladin skills for the win here in Honour Mode. HEAL Aylin after freeing her so she doesn't constantly fall over. Bludgeoning weapons, Radiant damage, Heroism or other ways to prevent frightened. Minthara with The Blood of Lathander was my MVP.

Joseph

So the resonance stone- just thought I would share. I took it, forgot it was in my pack and while traveling noticed it gives you an advantage. Stepped in bliss. There are other things I learned, but I’ll share that on a different one.

Orins meat puppet

Gotta love the Tias

Cano

Kàrlach is Mexican aunt coded. Automatically loves you and all your friends, is loud and overflowing with positive emotions but will murder anyone who threatens their friends or family.

Fun times. The parts where you play music are too long. Maybe start speaking over the music fading after 2-3 bars.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found orin to just be murder hobo incarnate. I understand that she is that way because of generational trauma and it feels like part of the point. The performance is fun, but man I get it you wanna "slice my meats."

I carried those two brains around on my Tav all the way up until the Mausoleum. At some point while there I got encumbered and going through inventory thought to myself, “why do I still have these?” And dropped them to clear up space. Few hours of gameplay later I audibly screamed, “you gotta be fucking kidding me!!” when I discovered I could use them in the colony. I understand hoarders now.

ResidentNate

That or Captain Planet. Thorme goes last because he has Heart.

Karsomir

This fight and the Harpies fight in Act 1 are the two fights I dread the most on Honor mode. He's never ended an honor mode run for me, unlike those damn harpies! But it's been really close. I always turn someone invisible and have them sneak over to Dame Aylin to free her so she starts the fight free to attack. You can still talk him into killing himself which is crucial on higher difficulties. On the top of the tower there is a ring in a locked chest that has a special ability allowing the wearer to command undead. You can command him to drop his weapon. Other than that hunger of hadar or other AOE to keep the necromites from running up to heal him. and blast him with fireballs.

Karsomir

Right there with you. Viconia too. Not the same person from the Bhaalspawn trilogy. Kind of a bummer in an otherwise great game.

Jesse Ritz

I cracked up so much at the power rangers moment.

Stoned Skeleton

Listening to it now and so glad to hear you hate Orin. She suuuucks. Spoilers for act 3: and ToB: But what I really hate is how they did Sarevok. He was never a worshipper of Bhaal. He was cynically using his bad dad’s legacy to try to seize his power for himself, unaware that Bhaal powers did not work via Highlander rules. Of course, this was before they retconned it to work kinda by Highlander rules. Even though it not working that way was the whole reveal of Throne of Bhaal. …..this is a lotta words to say that none of the “remember BG1 and 2? eh?” stuff was really necessary, and feel incredibly shoehorned in for everyone except Jaheira, who alone seems like the same person.

When you return to the tower you can find Minthara sitting on Ketherics throne where she’s like “I do enjoy sitting on Dead men’s throne” which is great. Jaheira will also walk up to her and ask if she knows of Viconia Deveir’s whereabouts.

Act 2 felt like the weakest act to me, Ala act 3 in DOS2. It’s way more on rails, though the story is cool. It also ends on such a high note that it felt like the end of the game. So when I got to Baldurs Gate I was kind of exhausted. The scenery and darkness mechanic are also downers. Myrkul was pretty tough for me, but basically only because Dame Alyin got dominated and started tearing through my ranks. Still didn’t die to anything in Balanced mode and there were only a handful of challenging fights. Already happy to see that Tactician is way more interesting. I talked Thorm into killing himself and still got his gear—at least his armor which I wore for the rest of the game.

Richard Cochnar

The fight with Myrkul is probably the toughest but also most fun fight in Honour Mode I had done until I got to Act 3. It didn’t help that I killed Aylin because I was playing Shadowheart who is aligned with Shar. The fight, ironically, is a lot easier if you choose to fight Ketheric rather than trying to talk him down because it gives you opportunity to kill the Mind Flayer, thr Intellect Devourers and a few skeleton which will make the fight with the Myrkul Avatar way tougher if you choose to skip straight to it. It’s here where I found it ideal to have someone cast Darkness on Myrkul to prevent him from casting his Legendary Action Gaze of the Dead, which puts frighten on his target and also does necrotic damage. This is especially problematic if your character is leaning up against him because then you are affected by bonechill so you can heal. He also constantly summons skeletons, which you have to deal with as they’ll try to heal him. It’s a fight that constantly puts you on edge and it was a lot of fun I think and scary because Honor Mode is very punishing.
