My favorite thing about durgin' it with Minthy is that you can respond to her with horrific dialogue options which she'll take seriously. When she recommends the city bring in the refugees, you can respond with some version of- "yes, so that you can eat them if the city runs out of food" and she'll mull it over and say- "maybe just the young and very old". I legitimately laughed out loud.

I normally leave the letters unopened and get the money. But on one of my play throughs, I was going through my inventory and forgot I had already found the letters and said to myself hummm what’s this and this was my face after reading them. 😳😳 oh

For a Good Urge, Sceleritas visits in a dream to show you Orin taking Slayer form but says you have a chance to regain Father's favor. You wake up with Jaheira watching you, swords drawn! She has ascertained your heritage and will note her previous experience with Bhaalspawns and offer counsel. She stays with you all night... watching or guarding. The continuity from previous games felt so good.

The Dragonborn assistant gives the player the meanest dialogue for no reason like; “you’re pretty annoying aren’t you?”

Mateus Silva

Paused at the wrong time to make this comment. Y’all covered that immediately afterwards

so I’ve learned, in my evil non-durge playthru that didn’t have enough party members to be kidnapped that Yenna is there to make sure Orin has someone to take 😅

With a few mods and hacks to completely unlock the game, the possibility space for player expression is staggering. Using a few finnicky utilities--i recommend Custom Companions, Spellthief, and NPC Tool--you could create any unit or scenario you can think of. How many rats does it take to conquer the Toll House? Can you beat the game with nothing but a Kuo'Toa bard and a scrying eye the size of a golfball who knows every spell? Would you have imagined that replacing Kethric's NPC with a dog would actually result in an improperly-rigged dog attempting to perform his cutscene animations? What, exactly, would Minthara do to me if I was only five inches small? These novelties constantly provide me with new contexts, enriching the robust, immersive world Larian have crafted. Combined with the encounter mods already available, I see years of rewarding replayability ahead of me. Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite game.

Peak podcasting in that it both sounded painful to say and was painful to hear Cole say "Based Things".

Thanks for naming the parallels to our current political reality. So true that it would have seemed over the top a decade ago.

My great shame is I haven't played the beamdog exclusive BG content, other than fucking around a bit with the npcs. It's on my list. -GB

We do! I'm trying to get everything. There are a few tiny things, like that weird ring you can repair that feels like cut content that I'm leaving out, but I'm aiming to be compleitionist. -GB

Dunno if y’all gonna talk about the other stuff you can find in Rivington like the recently turned Mind Flayer inside the Windmill. Act 3 is packed

Rivington is nicer than Gresham, my dog.

On my Dark Urge run, I didn’t let Volo take my eye. So he just hangs around the camp and you can pickpocket him with no negative consequence. If he sees you, he just runs away and comes back the next time you visit camp. The goblins also throw him back in a cage when you party with them, which is hilarious. Also, DOS2 seemingly had an Israel parallel in the genocided elves whose goal is to do their own genocide.

It's interesting that there are two different significant plot aspects that are also a big part of Siege of Dragonspear expansion that Beamdog made to bridge BG1 and BG2 - both in the inclusion of a major aasimar character in both as well as the fact that a significant early plot point in that expansion is the fact that Baldur's Gate is dealing with a refugee crisis, with the first portion of the campaign having you navigate that and do various related quests. Not sure if these are intentional callbacks but it's an interesting symmetry.

Quickly now! There’s a war on!
