Having played as Gale on my first run, you actually see a lot less of the origin characters performances if they are the PC. They just pull all the Tav expressions and don't really talk, even in their personal quests.

2025-02-03 10:57:22 +0000 UTCAscended astarion is so cracked. I have a hard time saying no to let him do the ritual, but the redemption arc for him is so satisfying to watch. It's one of my favorite things in the game. The agony/relief you can hear simultaneously in his screams is so good after he kills cazador. Neil Newbon is a 🐐.

2025-01-27 20:39:21 +0000 UTCThere is one Astarion moment I really liked, which was back in Act 2 where you meet the weird Drow alchemist who loves experimenting on blood and wants Astarion to bite her because it is her fetish. She offers you a very useful potion that gives a permanent +2 Strength buff. Astarion, however, senses there is something wrong with her blood and doesn’t want to do this. You can convince him to do it for practical reasons, and Astarion has done such before. But if you do encourage him to do this, he’ll talk to you in Camp (and if you’re romanced) he will break up with you. And I thought that conversation was really genuine in a way that a video game romance rarely is, you can’t video game your way out of getting a partner to do something he doesn’t like and not expect he’ll resent you for it or not having anything to do with you. If you refuse to force him to bite her he’ll have a very earnest conversation with you where he shows his vulnerable side, and how he really appreciate you giving him the agency to make his own choice. The last line “It isn’t worth the scars anymore” is delivered so well. This is why he won Best Actor and it really was deserved. Good character and great performance.
