A Temporary Guide to Multi-Show RSS

Hey folks, K here. Earlier this week I posted about a new Patreon feature that lets us break our multiple premium shows into separate RSS feeds. I've played around with it and I'm prepared to share with you how to use it.

Take a look at the instructions below and get ready to resubscribe to the podcast RSS feeds in order to not miss anything that you might be waiting for!

First, a timetable.

I've created separate feeds for the following shows already:

You can follow the directions below to subscribe to those shows if they apply to you.

For the remaining shows, we will make the full switch one week from today, on Wednesday February 19. All that will remain of the feed currently known as "Duckfeed Premium" will be the premium Watch Out for Fireballs! episodes, and the feed will be renamed.

For reference, those shows moving on Wednesday are:

How to Subscribe to Multiple Feeds:

The process is pretty simple if you already know how to subscribe to private Patreon feeds.

1. Go to the home page for the Duckfeed.tv Patreon campaign either on the desktop or mobile web interface (you can't do this in the Patreon app yet, unfortunately, but I think that change is coming soon).

2. Click on the Membership tab.

3. Scroll down to the section labeled "Listen in other podcast apps" and click "Other podcast apps". (A note on Spotify will come later).

4. You will see a list of all of the available shows, with a "copy" button next to them. That button will copy the URL for your individual private RSS feed to your clipboard.

5. Go to your podcast app of choice and find the option to add a podcast by URL.

What if I listen on Spotify?

Follow the directions above, but click the Spotify option instead. You can link your Spotify account to your Patreon account, then go to each individual show and follow it.

What will happen to the Fireside feeds?

After next Wednesday, February 19, the feeds won't update anymore. Eventually they will go away when we change to a new audio host in the near future.

If you have questions about any of this, or run into any issues that seem like bugs, let me know. If something needs fixing I can report it to the team I'm working with at Patreon and they will look at it.

What if I'm gonna miss that firehose?

Some people listen to everything we put out, and like getting the firehose of all of our episodes in one place. We call those people angels who weave heaven into earth with their sweet words of praise.

Though the firehose is going away, you can recreate it on most modern podcast apps with Smart Playlists. Poke around and see if you can create one in whichever app you listen to. Here's an attempt in Overcast that I made in 2 minutes.

If anything about this updates, I will make another post so you're aware of it. Sorry if this is kind of spam... If I don't overcommunicate, someone will be upset that they missed the boat.

Thanks for your support!

K

Not to backseat Patreon here: are there plans to put out an announcement podcast on the combined feed? just asking because it seemed to mysteriously stop updating for today and i was a lil confused till i remembered this

Are you keeping all the casts or cutting off some old content? For example, the oldest episode in the new Duckfeed Presents feed is WOFFTRAX 4 from 11/01/2016, but in the old feed it's Duckfeed Live and other content back to 2014.

Joseph

just checking in, this totally works. i've got the ES and duckfeed presents feeds up and running already, and they both work flawlessly

Piggyback comment, does anyone know if the option to automatically add feeds to pocket casts via the in-app option versus doing it the manual way on pocket casts adds those feeds as private by default? I did it the old way just to play it safe.

Heads up to everyone, as of the time of this comment the process is accessible from the mobile app. I just added everything to pocket casts through it and there haven't been any emergent issues so far.

All the new links seem to work so far. Thanks for the new options

Thank you for the heads up, but that’s as expected. Most shows have a free or teaser episode available, and that Fair Attractions episode is one of them (just like you suspected).

I'm only at the $5 level, but I see a feed for Quakstak. Granted, it only shows E5 (Fair Attractions), so maybe that's one that is available from one of your freebie premium packs. Just letting you know in case that's an issue that needs sorting out. That being said, hooray show feeds!

Trevor Burn

Yep!

Duckfeed.tv

Easily added to podcast addict. The transition will be easy when the others migrate thankfully

Jeremy

I’m listening through the Elden Ring series right now. I really enjoy the individual thumbnails for each episode. Does that information import into the RSS Feed if I add BSC to Apple Podcasts?

Right now there's no plan to merge them because there's no clean way to do it. You'll have to subscribe to them as different shows. Sorry for any inconvenience! - K

Duckfeed.tv

With the previous per episode feeds for shows that has both public and premium content (I think that's just AS and WOFF) the feeds had both the public and premium episodes. Looking at the new ES feed, it looks to be only the premium ES episodes. Is there any plan to merge them? If not, I can just create a smart playlist.

This was super helpful actually, thank you!
