I was similar to Kole and let Shadowheart choose whether to save her parents or not. What I think is interesting is she chooses to kill then instead of freeing them. It makes me wonder if they have some secret point system or if it’s just a flip of the coin. They turned into moon puffs.

I wish I was more RTS savvy so that I could go back and play older baldur's gate games. Listening to the backdrop on characters like the Konya makes me very interested in those games, but I have a hard time grasping on how to get a feel for playing real time strategy RPGs like that. 😭 Something I'll just have to read or watch I suppose.

So, a tip for honor mode… I did something similar to Cole, where I placed most of my party at the top of the stairs where you enter the cloister for the cutscene. I then had Shadowheart run back to the group when battle commenced, and I had two of my party members cast sleet storm on the stairs and the area immediately in front of the stairs once she arrived. It was hilarious to watch the dark justiciars continually fall over as they attempted to approach us. I placed my ice monk, Halsin, in the middle of the stairs. He was wearing boots that prevent him from slipping on ice, so he was able to melee anyone who got close to us. I had my tav cast gust of wind to dispel the darkness so we could continually attack at range. Two of my party members took no damage the entire battle, and the other two took minor damage. 🤘🏼

Shadowheart read as very Catholic coded to me. Mary is known as Our Lady of Sorrows, a Mother Superior leads nuns, her hand wound is stigmata, suffering building moral character, clergy teaching children from a young age and generally the church instilling a strong sense of guilt for thoughts and deeds which can only be forgiven by the church itself. It made her arc of leaving that institution and moral framework feel very relatable.

I would love a break down on how good and evil choices play into the game difficulty. I've mostly played evil choices and that ends up making Myrkul pretty challenging, but the benefits into act 3 really favor evil players I feel. Easier house of grief, Evil Shar Spear, and the Bhaalist gear especially. BG3 has some great opportunities for delicious evil and they really make the gear rewards tempting for players on the fence. Especially if you're playing Honor Mode and your save is on the line. Sorry Shadowheart I'll save your parents next time I swear.

Also wanted to point out in case y’all dont mention it, you can find notes here about the people who’s been to the House of Grief and one of them is the dimension hopping Tarquin fron Rivellon whom Viconia desperately want captured for his strange magic. He goes by the name Marco Creenn, anagram for necromancer.

It’s fascinating how if you play as Origin Shadowheart who has embraced Shar by killing the Nightsong, you have the opportunity to defy her by refusing to kill her parents, which I didn’t think the game would alow but it does. I wonder if that is also the case if she’s a companion but I like the room for roleplaying and even if you did a despicable thing it is never too late to make amends.

Remember to bring Minsc & Jaheira for this one folks.
