Bonfireside Chat 315: Recluse's River

This week we find the very hidden entrance to a very hidden path to a very hidden area. Shadow Keep hides a way to reach the Recluse’s River, which is the warpath that the hornsent inquisition took to bring great force to bear on Midra in the Abyssal Woods. Along the way we will complete our final two mini-dungeons and descend further than ought to be possible, as we approach the coolest area in the game.

First off, great episode as always. Now I've got an amusing(?) anecdote that I don't think is fun enough for a dispatch or roundtable. Over the holidays I decided to check out that Lord of the Rings anime movie. I also decided to go in gummied up to really get the most out of my time away from my god-awful family. Things were going great until Helm Hammerhand started punching a super orc and an unbearable urge for me to, in my most Gary sounding voice, bellow “Now you face Hoarah Loux, warrior!” and bust into uncontrollable laughter nearly took over. And then again later when Helm is in danger the urge to shout “Oh no! Wrastle Grandpa!” also crept up. I did neither of these things because the ten other people in the theater didn’t sign up for my bullshit, but I imagine I looked like a real broken-faced lunatic trying to hold in my howls of laughter if they could see.

I had a fun time fighting Jori & her jolly friends. It was hard, but it makes for a great time in co-op! Also, when you enter the woods and realize you might've killed the *only* person standing guard, it seriously adds to the feeling. I like how she's keeping people out, as if she herself has come to terms on some level with the futility of her task- mentioning how Midra's manse is like its own story made something click for me, how almost no one in power outwardly cares about the Frenzied Flame at all. It sort of adds to the tragedy of Miquella I think that he came close with the needle. Frenzy 4ever though Something I realized while listening to this episode- in the realm of the wheel of impaling & brutality, it's interesting how Messmer seems to taken the role of the Inquisition, albeit on a much greater scale. Also parallels perhaps between the Inquisition & Midra's followers, and Marika & the nomads, Kalé's people- how in her godhood she has only engraved herself onto the violence which shaped her world.

I was so disappointed by that Rakshasa armor, it looks cool but every single stat was lower than my Black Knight armor, except for the weight. Damn you Fashion Souls! *Shakes fist in the air*

Yeah, that tracks. It's hard to square Miquella semiotically sometimes. Into new incantations, genius inventions, and... martial arts. Ok! -GB

From Discus of Light: One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists. Produces a ring of light and fires it forwards. The ring of light returns to a position close to the caster before disappearing. This incantation can be cast repeatedly. A gift from the young Miquella to his father, Radagon.

The ring incantations are all made by or made for Miquella, the discus of light incant Dane uses is specifically made by Miquella for Radagon. Dryleafs are Miquella fanatics, the “new god” The Rakshasa Armor doesn’t actually boost damage negation! It just has poor damage negation for armor of that weight class, but really it’s not all that bad and still has good poise
