Real Lich Hours 65: Assaulting the Netherbrain

So I can’t remember if y’all already mentioned this, but the lyrics of the Song of Balduran that plays at the Elfsong camp describes the entire plot of BG3. There are a few places in camp where you can find the lyrics, and when I finally realized this, it blew my mind. I thought it was an incredibly cool detail. 😁 Here are the lyrics: O sing a song of Balduran Who founded Baldur's Gate Empire golden built on trade Could not avert his fate When three, though dead, assailed his port Transformed, he fell their thrall Succumbed as threat from nether years Arose to conquer all Now hope is gone, or so it seems But game's not over yet New cards are drawn, new hands are played Newcomers place a bet A knave, a wizard, devil, gith The odds are cast anew And Baldur's fate now turns upon The whims of fortune's few

Building on Haarlep's reaction being used to become ethereal, there are several other fights that can be made significantly easier by removing their reaction. Namely, the Netherbrain. It's psychic rebuke is a reaction as well. Having Gale land a clutch Slow on the brain let me DPS down the brain with my beefed up Paladin.

It is amusing that the main speedrun strategy is essentially coffin flops. The first time I fought the netherbrain I failed because I wasn't anticipating a timed DPS situation with destructive platforms. I only had two of my characters in position to go into the portal when it opened putting me at a disadvantage. Once I knew I had to quickly damage it down it wasn't a problem.

There's one word for this finale that comes to my head when I think about it. EPIC. Just so grandiose and chaotic. Stuff is just going down left and right. The best part is the allies for sure, yurgir is just so strong every time he's on screen. One of my favorite things is if you have Karlach and the dream visitors show up, she says the thing you're thinking, "THEY'RE REAL?!"

In my first playthrough I died to the elder brain. I only had my two melee characters through the gate and they fought it in close combat. When the others arrived, all of the close platforms were gone. And in the end, I was left with only 2 of the furthest platforms before I figured out what triggers them disappearing. It felt a little cheap to die to a fight, just because I didn’t know what was coming.

Nah it shows about every time, also correct technician and above that pod is gone

Justin Schmidt

Is that spectator in the big melee only there if you gave the iron flask to the zhent? Since it’s lvl 4 or 5, that’s what I assumed. I believe the illithid healing pod is NOT there for tactician and above. I know they definitely aren’t there on honor mode. Need those angelic slumber potions.
