Second Homework Submission!

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week during my Figure Drawing course with Will Weston we focused basically on overall construction methods with a little extra focus on the front torso area.

Many of these were  a struggle simply because trying to do something a different way than you are used to is challenging. However, I was always focused on trying not to rely on the shape/contours that I saw in the reference to get the drawing right.

I've drawn over 350 figures last year from references like these and It taught me that I need to focus on using techniques to build up form and gesture that I can take with me to draw from imagination later on.

Therefore, I am trying to start with bigger torso/pelvis shapes and add in the head later, and also to build up flat surfaces that I can turn into 3d forms as I continue with the drawing. These are things that I see Will doing often but ofc it s going to take some time for them to become second nature.

One other thing that I wanted to share, was that he knew it would be overwhelming to many after the first live class. There's like 10 different things to think about when starting to draw a person. Eventually, we will be able to casually understand them all but right now we the students need to be self aware and focus on one, maybe 2 of those things, and let Will critique which ones we forgot so that we can think even deeper next time. This is why I always say things are learned in layers. There's now 'how long do I need to study X before I get good?" It depends on how many passes you need to become skilled, and how well you have learned to apply it into the final product you want to make.

Absolutely brilliant work😃

I would like to see more content similar to what you posted to YouTube today. It's entitled: "You should think Like This when Drawing Figures". It was very informative on giving structure to drawing. I'm more interested in videos including your voice than a number of printables. I've appreciated watching you on YouTube for quite some time, but I wanted more. That's why I joined "Patreon".
