Here's where the story pivots from Stimpy's to Ren's point of view. Ren grab's Stimpy's head and shoves him to the ground where he can get a good luck at the ugly world of tiny competing lifeforms.
Stimpy witnesses the gory world of bugs. He watches in horror as a preying mantis chews the head off a cute little beetle bit by bit.
Here's a couple of the layouts.
When I handout work work to the storyboard and layout artists I usually do some quick rough sketches for them to go by.
Trying to keep the guts of the loose sketches when they get tightened up is a very tricky process. Even when I clean up my own work, I struggle to not even everything out and lose a bit of the intensity.
I've been lucky to work with some top notch artists though who are equal to the task.
These layouts look like they were done by Nick Cross.

You know, as an animation student, I can relate to your experience going from ruff sketch to clean-up sketch, in the case of my own work, at the time of this writing, because sometimes I have to push my forces, sometimes I need to chill out on the forms and details, but sometimes it’s a combination of both. That is the way of trying to push the gesture of the rough sketches following thru to my final. Speaking of which, hope you’ve stopped being to rougher on yourself, therefore you can and will enjoy yourself and “trust the process” much even more. Keep up the great work, John, but you gotta keep busting out more LS art from R&SAPC, gotta keep earning more patrons! Paul Christoforos P.S.
