Marching onward...

Hello, happy Wednesday!  I've been writing and fiddling around with story stuff for Peculiar Soul, those of you who hang out in the Discord might have seen me toss a few things up.  In particular I've been fleshing out the details of the map in which the story takes place.  

There's a quote from Carl Sagan that goes: "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe."  His scope was a bit more grand than what I'm looking at here, but the same principles apply - geography informs politics and culture, distance governs movement, and the minutiae of where a given country, city or village sits help to characterize it just as well as the people who live there.  

The process of mapmaking forces details to decohere from vague and sometimes contradictory ideas into a single truth that can be represented consistently in the story, as well as providing a useful prompt for considering questions that haven't come up previously.  

Plus, it's fun!

Since this story will tend to follow a single character rather than an ensemble I don't think I'll have quite the same utility from journal entries, so I'm considering doing some supplementary material that is relevant print media - newspapers, advertisements, propaganda, that sort of thing.  I'm still experimenting to find a balance between something that helps the story along and looks good and something that won't kill me to put out weekly.  

In other news the IoE books are still on their merry way here, I should have them next week and I'll probably get them turned around and out the door the next day unless something crazy happens - soon, in any event.
