That makes a lot of sense, and I thank you for not explaining it back in the "Midnight" post! That's cool that they both got an episode to themselves, pretty much. Very good!

2019-08-31 04:55:08 +0000 UTCThis entire episode was an exercise in brilliant character writing. Whether it's how Catherine Tate nearly held the fort all by herself, or the passing mentions to so many characters we've gotten to know and love, the whole thing illustrates how Doctor Who is so much about its characters. What I said about Midnight was that there were behind-the-scenes logistical reasons as to why Catherine Tate wasn't in Midnight very much. I was vague on it at the time as I didn't want to spoil that this one was, in contrast, largely missing David Tennant. Basically, getting 13 episodes out with both leads is a hell of a demanding film schedule. With Series 2 they introduced the idea of a 'Doctor-lite' episode to get around this, with Love & Monsters barely featuring either The Doctor or Rose. Series 3 did the same again, with Blink barely featuring The Doctor or Martha. For Series 4 they did it a bit differently, with Midnight and Turn Left each largely missing one of the two leads, enabling them to be filmed back-to-back. I guess just a creative way of getting around a demanding schedule.
