I don’t even see some of the characters on the show as characters. They’re so realistic to me that they come off as human and real. Owen is my favourite character in the dr who universe for this very reason. He isn’t just an asshole he’s layered and has reasons for the pain. Some are justified and some are not which makes it much more realistic and perfect to me

I like to think that the characters in Torchwood have always been complex and multi layered, but it is only over time that we gradually see those layers r revealed. By t h e way, I take it by your bemused expression during the conversation about Tintin, and the t-shirt Jack gave Owen, t h at you are not familiar with the Belgian comic book series The Adventures o f Tintin by Herge? Probably the most popular comic series in Europe in t the 20th century - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tintin. Not a big fan myself (I probably side with Owen on this one), but very culturally significant all the same 😀.
