I just watched this reaction (catching up myself - not seen s9-12 yet). I understand the point about being glad for not seeing the credits snippet from Death in Heaven meaning you were still surprised at the start of this special. For me, when I watched 8x12 it helped soften the blow a little to hear Nick Frost say "she's not alright and neither are you" because it meant I knew they were aware how sad it was and were maybe going to address them having lied to each other (which they then did)
