I get serious Sound of The Drums and Last of The Timelord vibes from this story due to the fact that people are being manipulated and are believing false narratives from the Monks (Again very timely in 2017 lol). It reminds me of when the people believed Simm's Master as Prime Minister back in Series 3 of Doctor Who. Bill and Nardole going on a mission to rescue The Doctor in a dystopian future also parallels Martha's quest in Last of The Timelords where she spread the gospel of The Doctor towards people in order to save him. Also the statues of the Monks = Master Statues in Last of The Timelords. Also people being dragged out of their homes = Martha's family being dragged out and arrested. The parallels are so strong here. The fake regeneration moment with 12 was so cruel to Bill but I think it was one of the best acting moments from Pearl Mackie purely because she really pours the emotions out of Bill in terms of how frustrated she was due to her efforts in overcoming and not submitting to the Monks influence only for the doctor to remind her that she caused this. Her threatening to beat the shit out of Nardole also made me laugh. I really enjoy this episode...except for the ending. I really don't like the love resolution purely because Moffat overuses this trope far too much. I understand he was going through a rough time personally but I feel like the love resolution has been overdone a lot in this era which makes this the weakest out of the trilogy. I feel like "the love defeats all" really weakens the threat of these stories. Still a lot of good stuff in this trilogy of episodes though.
