Lovely reaction as always! Yeah I think this is the only episode of series 2 of Sarah Jane that is supposed to take place during Series 4 of Who. I guess after The Sontaran two parter but before the Dalek invasion as Maria is on holiday in Cornwall with her Dad at that point. Hence the 6 weeks before she goes. And without spoiling it, you’ll gather why this and the next series are all set in the same time frame. I was always sad that Maria left because she felt like a Rose type character. I remember I was just starting secondary school when this episode aired and could relate with Luke of what it was like to say goodbye to friends etc. It’s a nice opening to the series as well. Also it’s funny you post this as I’ve just started to doing some fan designs for the second series of the show on my Instagram and it’s been nice to now watch the episode. Looking forward to what you think of the next episode!

It's definitely one of the better Sontaran stories and has that extra element of squee since Sarah Jane had encountered them in the classic series too -- so it's a nice callback, but still a good story if you've never seen the old episodes. To be honest, I never really clicked with Maria, but I was really sad about Alan leaving. Definitely not going to miss Chrissie though! Still, have no idea what issue RTD has with mothers, as the mothers of the Whoniverse on his watch are often so...extra.
