Again there's potential, but too often so many parts are poorly executed. Clumsy, disjointed, cringey and flat. Bradley again is the highlight for me. I was pleased to see some more development with Yaz and Mandip drew me in more. I'm please to be able to be more possitive about something. I am continuing to struggle with Tosin. His portrayal of Ryan, a lot of the time, leaves me very uninspired. He has had his moments on rare occasions. Can I see him going on in his career much like Piper, Agyeman, Tate, Gillan, Darvill, Coleman and Mackie? It's not all down to him, I actually don't think they know how to write for his character a lot of the time. Tonally and performance wise, the difference between Yaz's scene with the police office and Ryan's friend were world's apart. Jarring is definitely the right word for the episode and it applies here. I do feel there perhaps was a middle ground to be found in elevating the script. I'd say somewhere between the over simplified dialogue of a complex issue we got from Ryan's friend. And the lack of a grand reassuring speech from a character possibly historically capable of something a little more comforting or thought provoking than a socially awkward dodge. A good social comment to make about when people try to talk about their feelings. But perhaps the wrong character to deliver it I think. If this episode spoke to some people because of it's important subject matter, then great. It's not something I enjoy criticising. But is it a well thought out and constructed drama? Judged as a whole, I think this is pretty awful in general to be honest.
