MP Evas WIP

Hey! I'm starting work on the winner of this month's poll, the Mass Production Evangelion from NGE. I've always been a fan of these guys and their uniquely unsettling faces/winged silhouette ever since I first saw them in clips from End of Eva well before I actually sat through the whole thing. As dire as their role in that film is i've remained a fan of them and have even tried painting/drawing them a times before. 

I have kind of a complicated relationship with my NGE fanart since historically it's been my most popular, reshared and thus stolen content, and has endured in popularity long after I stopped regularly producing it. While I understand the nature of doing fanwork for an established series of the magnitude of NGE and recognize my original work was never going to achieve the same kind of traction, it does sting a little when some people only know me for the four or five Unit-01 pieces I drew in like, 2014.

Revisiting Eva units is always fun though, and I try to find a way to bring a unique flavour of my own. Historically with the MP EVas I try to "push" the sharklike or jet-nose silhouette of their heads, as well as insert more directly humanoid teeth over the "plates" Units have in the show, as much as I love those. I also like to emphasize their musculature and the feathered quality of the wings, overall bringing them closer to their true organic nature rather than the mechanized shell. 

These are just prelim explorations - I had a pretty exhausting day so i'm not getting fully underway.  I'll probably do a few more thumbnails like the one above to figure out composition and see if I can do better than that proposal there but honestly I love it so much already I might just dive in.
